Just finished the latest donation project guitar. here are some pic's.

This guitar was done with a lot of emotion and love, as it is going to 3d Recon/Force Recon. (www.3rdrecon.org) my Marine Corps unit for 2 plus tours from 1967-1970 in Viet-Nam. I don't want to offend anyones beliefs or stands on that or any other war. I am proud of my service and all of those that did serve and do today. As one book noted about Recon, "They were given a hard job and they did it, and they did it dang well." Our motto was "Where the Division is going, We've been." To all those brothers who left it in the bush and those who came home. To those that served in all units of military and did the same, and those who today, like to note in particular John Elshaw USAF (OLF), my nephew and his 2 nieces who serve in the Army and tours in Iraq. SEMPER FI!!!

This Guitar is going to be raffled at our Assoc. reunion in San Diego the week of Sept. 19. Some of the proceeds will go to starting a scholarship,of a middle school student in the name of Richard (Tex/Hillbilly)Anderson. He was one of my best friends and teammates for a time, before going to another team as assist. team leader. He was KIA, in a late contact and hot extraction, and through his efforts of saving several team members life in that contact and giving it all, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. I think of Hillbilly everyday. Memory of him and the memory of others in my Team, "Sky Merchant" who gave it all, in addition to many other brothers in the teams of Bn. and Force Recon was all through the build.

This build was in collaboration with Bill Moll. Bill gave very much in this project with materials, shop, knowledge, advice and most of all his hands in craftsmanship. He is a true friend, great boss and luthier of the highest quality. I can't say enough about his talent and help. Also at the start of this build, Bill's oldest son was a Sgt. in the Marine Corps and was at the end or had just finished his I think 2nd tour in Iraq. Thank you Bill and Cameron.

Sorry for the sentimate, didn't mean to get hung up on that, now about guitar.

It is an SJ, 14 fret to body, sitka scallop bracing. Dovetail join at body, nitro finish.

3 piece mahogany neck

Bill gave me a great cocobolo back and side set and sitka top.

Binding is from Bob C. and is maple with bloodwood /maple purfel.

Rosette and headstock veneer is also cocobolo from Bob C. back of headstock is coco from local hardwood store.

Going to add the new L.R. Baggs in soundhole pickup in case, but gold end/input pin for life of me I can't remember at this writing the proper term. Getting old and tired.

Can't remember name of tuners, but they are what Bill has gone to and they are great. Gold with ebony buttons.

Can't think of much else to say.
Thanks for looking and putting up with rambling.

Wow, that is really nice! I especially like the headstock sandwich and the binding/purfling on the fretboard.

"Now thats a gitar" comapred to his, mine you could say "it has tone"(inside joke thing) He builds an incredible guitar, with great detail work.stan thomison38968.6795023148

Stan,

I like it! Your body shape looks a bit like one I'm hoping to get started on soon, though mine will be smaller. My design is inspired by a LaCote (sp?) outline. How did you arrive at yours?

Great work on the guitar Stan!

No decent person is ashamed of your work in the Nam, either!

Keep it up!

Stan--YOU THE MAN! That's one awesome guitar with killer inlays (no pun intended). Hey, you'll be glad to know that Marine Force Recon has officially become part of USSOCOM earlier this year. You guys were doing spec ops long before it was called that. Both my father and father-in-law were over the same time as you (as LRPS). I hope your guitar brings in a fortune at your reunion. Good luck, and Semper Fi Marine!

John
