Lance very cool.
This isn't something that can work. No way, this shouldn't be on a real builders site. I can't imagine how it can play, it isn't conventional and not to the standards of guitar making. There is only one way to make a guitar, and this isn't it. Please remove it.

This is worse than McPherson and others who have messed up the way guitars can be built. There is one way and this isn't it. I am hacked such a thing is presented here.

By the way, I know Taylor and Martin and for sure others make nylon string guitars, other than classical. I can't believe they can work, again because they aren't traditional and just nylon stringed, steel strings. If it has nylon, it should be required to be classical and built as such. Again there is no room for diversity in building, or shouldn't be. Please build to the standard of either classical and steel and the way those are to be braced, look and done, anything else in not acceptable. By the way, in building the nylon stringed, steel string look, is it fan bracing, X or other bracing really small.
Please Lance only conventional guitars and proper way of building should be allowed here, there is again no room for things that are different, because they can't work and it gives others false impression of how something can be built. If it ain't Martin and to that standard, it isn't a steel string guitar or a guitar at all it is merely another type of instrument, trying to be passed as a guitar.

in all seriousness, the top construction appears rather complex. is the raised inner portion a doubled top?

but at least his cut away would be easy to bend.

I believe the top is solid, and has a routed channel around the perimeter to act as a speaker cone would. Kevin has gotten a lot of very positive reviews with this design.

That bracing pattern and the groove in the top totally goes against everything that I understand about the vibration of tops. That's what's called a learning experience, and you have to hate those.

i really misinterpreted the photo!

the groove causes other questions to arise:

    how thick is the top overall so that the groove does
      not overly weaken it?
    what is the brace material? they appear to be
      a different sort material, perhaps even machined or
      moulded.
    using the tailpiece, does he glue his bridge or leave
      free like an archtop?
    are his instruments aimed at the classical player or
      greater eclectic nylon market?

the body doesn't shout classical.

and the cutaway would be easy to bend.

when i see such an innovative approach i am always impressed by the ingenuity that dreams it up and the courage it takes to implement it and fly in the face of convention!

Just looking at it, I would say the braces are machined spruce and the top is cedar.

Actually, the overall bracing pattern confounded me so much that I didn't really think about the braces. That is pretty much what an engineer that wanted light and stiff would design. If the flange on the top is big enough to take the load, the material in the middle doesn't contribute significant resistance to bending, just weight. That's why many structures are made of I beams.

Since the bridge doesn't take any string load, things can be very different.

Clearly, he's making a big fairly rigid piston at the bridge. Very interesting.
