Well John How has the guitar in hand but has not received the peghead veneer or fretboard form Craig. As you probably know, due to his work load Craig has had to bow out any inlay work. So anyone up to a peghead inlay. At this late date I think a simple "OLF" logo will cut the mustard to keep this project moving. While I am no longer Foreman on this project I am going to check with a few of the participants still on the build schedule to verify their participation is still viable. The one I have some concern about is Crazymanmichael and the intonation as his last replay to me was that he doubted this would happen and he was not for sure if he would be available, and this was many months ago. If he chooses to not intonate the guitar I will offer to install the bridge, the K&K pickups, tuners and shape the nut and saddle and intonate. This will take a bit more time from me but I will do this to avoid the project going nowhere.

Hi guys. I just wanted to let you know that I got the guitar from Brock and I am very impressed by all the work that has been done so far. When so many people have had their hands in a project you just never know what the outcome will be but this guitar has a lot of potential to be very nice. Taping on the guitar it seems to be pretty responsive so I'm hopeful there. It looks stunning as well. Brock expressed that the side wood seemed to have case hardened a bit and there were a couple of chips that came out while routing for the binding. They are very small and located on the butt wedge and I think after we fill the pores with z-poxy, they will totally blend and disappear. The quality of everyones work on this guitar has been top notch and I hope I can live up to what has been done.
Now can someone tell me if the top is one of Shanes lutz spruce pieces? If it is, I need to get some as it is a beautiful piece of wood. I don't know who has done what on this guitar except that brock did the binding and I'm suspecting that Paul Woolson did the linings and the back as it looks like his style and workmanship.

glad to see that this project has progressed thanks to the hard work of those involved. my previous comments were in no way an indication of not wishing to be involved, but rather a despairing view after having seen the sad lack of progress on the first one.

who knows, maybe this one will get done first.

I think everyone has done a great job!
On the issue of time, and how long is has taken, both for this and the OLF #1, I really think that is just what happens when so many people are involved. I was part of the 13th fret guitar, and I know I stared at that guitar for a week before I took it out of the box!
On the OLF #2, (this guitar) I REALLY dragged my feet, but for good reason, it literally fell to the bottom of my priority list, after client needs, family needs etc.
I think its just the nature of the beast with projects like this.
That said, what a group accomplishment! We can forever be proud of this guitar and what we managed to do as a team.

I agree Lance. As it happens, it came to me just at the same time as I am under a crunch to finish two guitars for the middle of October so while I hope not to drag my feet unduly, I stilll have other work to get done that has to be more important.
Maybe we can get this guitar done in time to all get together and make a presentation that the next ASIA event.John How38980.5594907407

Bruce remined me that there was a change on the to I had forgotten about. He emailed me this info.

The sitka top came from Timbertone on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, through the hands of Ed Dicks. That top was for a custom build, but the cousin's nephew never came back to pay the deposit, so after a while it was up for grabs. The top is joined and braces glued with HHG, the braces are adirondack red spruce and Crazymanmichael supplied the really nice DePaule abalone and purf lines.

Yeah, there were a couple of weird spots on the sides. They are very brittle. It looks to me like they are case hardened a bit. There were several little hunks missing in the sides when I got it. Most sanded out when I leveled the sides, but before I knew about this problem I made a couple worse with a scraper. It is like a little eye will lift right out of the side.

So be careful.

However, I think that if those little voids near the end graft are cleaned well and then dropped filled with epoxy you will never notice them.   But if it does take a small graft I think Lance told me he has some left over side material somewhere.

I meant to ask in my earlier post if the neck block has a mortice cut into it or not. I think maybe it was lance who may have put those in. Or maybe we were going with a butt joint. Anybody?

John, I blocked it and lined it as well as braced the back and got it on. (I think that's what I did, I get the two mixed up a bit. ) I'm sorry but I can't for the life of me remember if I mortised the neck block or not. I usually do that on my guitars prior to installing but something tells me that I did something a bit different. You could route a small hole right in the middle of where the tennon would fall just to check. Sorry to be so vague.

I'll do just that Paul. It seems to me that at one time we had talked about just using a butt joint but I can't remember. Well I'll make a neck for it anyway, my choice I guess.
Paul, that lining is very cool, next time you make up a batch I'll jump in at least for my more modern style of builds.

One and the same That is the rosette. Bruce just ment that Michael sent it to him.
