No.2 just left home. I would describe the experience as bitter sweet...

This was one of those 'Hey bud, pay for the parts and I'll make it for you' kind of deal. I explained that I was very very green at building. As it turned out, the guitar was a lot better than I thought it would be and now everyone at work thinks that they'll get a custom guitar at cost of materials    Sure, I tell them, EIR is now 2500$ a set!

Actually, my 'pay the parts' building is over.   I think I will build just for myself and once the guitar is done, then it might be for sale.

The new owner is my friends son, Andre. His reaction upon seeing the guitar was priceless though, I must admit...

Right on, Dude! That was righteous of you indeed. That makes you and Serge The Righteous Brothers

Next week you'll be getting a call... "Mr. Desforges, Have you ever made an electric guitar?" and, "If I paid for the wood and pickups, do you think you could make me one?"

Seriously, that's a great tribute to your skills when they seek you out like that...it won't be long before you'll be taking commissions.

Best wishes, Bro!

Righteous brothers! I like that JJ!

Alain, i'm really proud of you bro! May i commish you to build me one too!

I wish i could have been there and see this live my good ole Pal, the smiles and wide opened eyes and the words of praise coming out of their mouths!

Like JJ said Alain, it's just a matter of time before you sell your guitars for big bucks, i've seen a lot of supposed "high end" factory guitars at Steve's music store in Ottawa that don't even come close to yours in terms of beauty and refinement, not even mentionning the sound which is just incredible!

Sad and happy for you but yeah, build the next one for yourself, you deserve a ggreat one bro!

Serge

Well done Alain!! Never be sad when you get a guitar into the hands of a friend or son of a friend. Besides you will have visitation rights no doubt!

Think of poor JJ, he's run out of brothers and sons to build for. (Though each would probably like a second JJ).

Righteous Brothers -- I like it JJ.

Very nice, Alain. After I finish the two "give aways" I'm on now, I'm doing one for cost, too.

Thanks a lot for your kind words, guys...

I have kept visitation rights. I'll have her every second week-end.

Before delivery, I showed her off to one of my nephews who lives and breathes guitars, and he loved it. I think no.3 is going to be a legacy guitar for him. If not, no.4 certainly will... It's too bad his father (my older brother Mike) passed away this summer because I would of made one for him too as he was a guitar-head as well...

Thanks again guys.

No.3, HERE I COME!!!! BONZAI!!!!

Wow, you can see how chuffed he looks...

It's totally awesome owning a instrument that has been handmade by someone else.

Have you got #3 wood combo planned yet?

Hey I bet you were smiling just as much.

Nice job. Bottom line, even as a hobbiest, we can play them all. I bet that one is going to sing a lot.

You can be proud of that one, for sure.

Donovan

Great job, Alain! I'd be smiling, too, if I was holding such a gift. I know it will be special to him, and everytime he picks it up, he'll think of its maker.

Wow,... thanks everyone!

Sam, yes, no.3 will almost be an exact replica of no.2. EIR bound in flamed koa. The top will be different though. Bearclaw sitka instead of Adi. Same shape (which I drew myself) but 1 inch narrower and with a Florentine cutaway. Maybe a multiscale as well... Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment...

Lillian, merci beaucoup!

Steve, you are so right. It's funny in a sense. I think that no matter how well he plays it, or how much he loves it, that's always going to be MY guitar... In my mind, it's very much a father/offspring type relationship... (I know, I need help )
OOOOH BTW bud, i love your new avatar, is this Zac holding no 2? Really nice pic dude!
Yes, that's my Zak but he's not holding the guitar... The guitar is on a stand. Actually, my specific instruction were that he NOT touch the guitar

You see, in his right hand, he's holding a cottage cheese container with little holes in the lid... And by the time I took the pic. he had 2 frogs and and few toads in there    At one point he had absolutely no qualms in using the guitar as a shelf for holding the plastic pot. (the horn, to be precise...)

Behold the amphibian bastille!
