Do you guys think Cocobolo would make a good neck wood? I know that some have used EIR for necks, but I've never heard of a coco neck. Do you think it would be too heavy? The reason I ask is that the local Rockler has some coco boards on sale that are just the right size for neck blanks and really cheap!!

It would be very unusual and pretty, as well as heavy. If you do I would recommend a 12 fret neck. It is slightly heavier than most other rosewoods. It would go nicely with a coco back and side set.

According to this site, Cocobolo is the second most dense wood in the world, being roughly 2-1/2 times as dense as mahogany. I don't know if that's true, but it's darn heavy.

However, if you resaw it and use it for laminates in a mahogany neck, cocobolo lines are very elegant and will go a long way in keeping your necks straight.
