Being an engineer in the manufacturing industry it amazes me the number of major manufacturers that farm out parts to be made, that don't have a QCPP (Quality Control Process Procedure) or do not included FAI (First Article Inspection as part of the QCPP. If a First Article Inspection had been done on Grover's miss dimensioned parts The error would have been caught prior to any parts going to manufacture.

First Article Inspection is a detailed QC inspection of the first batch of a farmed out part provided by a specific vendor. This insure the part meets all specs prior to parts from that vendor being excepted into inventory. MichaelP38989.6708796296

Michael, I believe the problem came about as a result of unexpected high demand for the tuners. They thought they could use parts off the slotted head tuners and put together more regular tuners. Problem was the parts were not interchangable, even though they looked like they were. At least that's the story as I heard it.

Oh! I had heard an off shore vendor supplied miss manufactured parts. Anyway It has been a while now and I have good results with them.

Yeah, I think they learned their lesson on those. The new ones seem to be fine.

Doesn't it seem like someone along the way would have said, "Ummm, this doesn't fit right"?

The story is that thay had the parts for the two manufactured off shore and then in the US as a result of unexpected high demand for the tuners They used parts for the slotted head tuners and put together more regular tuners. as it turned out the parts were not interchangable, even though they looked like they were. As long as the Parts for each type were kept together there wasn't a problem but when they started mixing them they were slightly different. As they explained it to me the problem wasn't with the manufacture of either type of tunner but was when they tried to use parts manufactured for one tunner on the other. They hadn't anticipated doing this so hadn't made sure they could. Yes some engineer should have anticipated this or they shouldn't have tried it with out fully testing first. The parts aparently are now totally interchangeable I am told. Grover was very up front about admitting their error and making it right. I am sure though that they will take many years to recover from this though.
