Ok...

So, I am getting to the bottom of the graphics mystery. I FINALLY know why some people are getting the graphics and some are not.

The problem is in the IE browser software. It isn't relative to any specific VERSION, but rather, what service packs and OS updates you have installed.

This seems to only affect IE browsers (that I have heard of) and we have repeatedly "fixed" the problem by running the windows update function on each machine that had the problem.

Without fail, that fixed it.

So, if you are still having trouble with the graphics... this is the solution.

Had a problem tonight accessing the forum through the "luthiersforum.com" URL, which is what I've got bookmarked on this computer. I kept getting an error saying that I didn't have permission to veiw the directory. Had to go through an old link in my history instead. I'm using firefox, if that's relevant.

Paul, I've had the same thing happen once or twice. Then I try again later and the URL works correctly.

It has to do with how the Internet finds URL names. Each URL is associated with a number that locates a unique server on the net.

In truth the number is the "real" address and the name is simply a pointer to that physical location. Each time you type the name into your browser the software looks up the numerical address in your ISP's DNS (Domain Name Service)

When servers move and change name / number associations it takes some time for the entire Internet to become aware of the change and start pointing to the new location.

This should clear up in a few days.

I still find the DNS stuff to be a little confusing even after working in this business for an age.... that was the only reason I offered an explanation.
