Just wondering what you all think. I am going to build a 000 size with a red cedar top and was wondering what back and side wood you all would match it with. if you want to go the extra mile, a binding wood option would also be helpful. I was thinking maybe the eucalyptus I got from Bob with ebony or bloodwood bindings.

Koa is a lovely match up with red cedar. Then use a brazilian rosewood binding for a nice, rich chocolate edge to the golden brown koa. Or, if money is no object, do a brazilian body with a flamed koa binding. I've built them both ways and they are stunning and, of course, have different sound characteristics.

Or, OR, try this: Claro Walnut back / sides / AND neck. Then top the whole thing with the curliest zootiest maple binding you can find. I did one like that last year and it was just a beaut. And all your colors are in the same general family. Sorta.

Mahogany is another great choice. It's hard to pair something up with cedar or redwood and have it be a bad combination. Just my opinion, of course.

I love koa with the cedar and have done a couple. Also have one going with cocobolo and koa binding

I'd say it's all according to the what the guitar is going to be used for. My last three guitars have been with WRC tops. If you want a fruity, smooth sound then one of the Rosewoods or a wood with an SG of around .85 would be my choice. For a punchier more present sound for altered tunings or blues then go with a mahogany or another wood with SG of around .65. My favourite that I have recently built used B&S of Swietenia microphylla (the samll leaved Mahogany which is denser and closer grained than Honduran (Swietenia macrophylla) and has an SG of .70 it makes a great DADGAd guitar. You pays your money and takes your choice, but the final playing style should dictate the choice.

I dig Walnut and Cedar a lot. Koa is also great. A really cool combo is Koa/Cedar with snakewood bindings, abalone top purfling and urly ample accents in the purfling. Mucho cool, and classy.

Well, after reading through the replies I have decided to make 2. One Koa and one Walnut.
