I spoke with Buffalo Bob this morning. Still no power and none expected for days to come.

He's surviving by cooking steaks on the grill and keeping the perishables cool in the snow.

Bob is in good spirits and sends his regards. He's been driving around looking for hot spots so he can get online, to no avail.

My opinion...he's going to be like a caged lion in a few days if he doesn't get power soon. The situation has caused me to develop a plan to deal with such unexpected emergencies. I always have enough water, dry and canned goods squirreled away to last for a week but I could do better.

Let's hope we get a post from the Zootman soon!

My brother lives a few minutes from Bob & they got about 18" wet snow on leaves. The trees snapped and tok power lines down. Miles of them. 105 miles of NYS thruway was closed. It's been above freezing, and raining, so flooding may occur. My brother was wating for a turn on his neighbor's generator to run the sump.

Some are not expected to get power back for almost a week. Wow!

     I just read an article on solar power to get the house off grid entirely. It was about $8300 filthy American dollars. I know the photovoltaics still produce power in bad weather, but I don't know how much. Still very expensive, but it does pay for itself, and more, in time!

    I wish Bob well and hope he gets through this soon!

Well I'm back. Thanks to all for the kind words. I was able to find a generator today. A bit pricey but what could I do. Sears got a shipment of 500 this morning and there were people waiting all night to buy one. Sold out by 10 AM. I found one at a local store that sells lawnmowers, chainsaws etc. Rosie and I are fine. Thanks to my old Vermont Castings wood burning stove and bags of zoot scraps we are warm. Still don't know when we will have our power back on. Here's a link to a few pic's that I took arond the neighborhood. This is the earliest snow storm of this magnitude in the Buffalo area on record.

Hesh thanks my friend. That's way there was so much damage. The weight of the snow on the leaves brought the branches down to the ground and cracked thousands of trees. I have a sugar maple in front of my house and branches that were well above the roof were touching the ground. Luckily most of them sprung back up as the snow melted. It's pretty bad around the area but still nothing compared to what those people suffered and still do at the hands of Katrina. At least we still have a home.

Glad you are OK Bob!We lost power down here when the hurricane blew through a few years ago.You don't realise how much you depend on the electric until its gone! Stay Warm Zootman

Thanks Dave. Boy your right about that. One of the things that amazed me was the number of people in line for coffee at the local super market. Had to be 200. The usual coffee places have been closed.

Bob, so glad to hear that you and Rosie are weathering the affects of the storm in comfort. There is so much that could have gone wrong. And its not over yet. Sounds like you guys are in for some ugly flooding.   Be careful please.

Bob, good to hear you're doing well and you've got your electricity back. I have to say you got back just in time as certain unnamed forumites were going into zoot withdrawl and it was starting to look like it might get ugly around here.

Good morning all. Well still no power. The generator works fine but man it is expensive to run. With the price of gas it guzzles $25 a day. I'm going to shut it during the daylight hours. National grid said our area is taking long because the poles are in the back yards so they can't use the power buckets and have to climb the poles. They called in over 3000 workers from all over the Eastern US. Just have to take it one day at a time. We are doing fine. Rosie said to say hello to everyone and we both thank all for your concern.
