No matter which carrier I use they all leave my package on the front porch, which is uncovered. I generally don't have a problem with this since our neighborhood is decent and I have some elderly neighbors (you know what I'm talking about). Since I've started ordering stuff like tonewood and back & sides sets though, I get worried. I just tracked my package from LMI and it is set for delivery today, but it's raining like crazy and is supposed to rain all day. Surely, FedEx won't leave my walnut neck blank out in the rain. Have any of you ever had similar worries? Ever had to deal with rain damaged packages?

Leave a note on your door where you want them to leave the package.
I'm pretty sure they're liable for damage if they leave it in the rain or it gets stolen.

Thanks guys. I'll have my wife leave a note with instructions not to leave it in the rain.

OR,
You might want to invest in a rubber made container, like the long rectangular storage bins you can buy at Home Depot. Just leave it out there with a note on the expected day of delivery.

oooh, good idea. I like that one Lance. We have the same problem with our dogfood ( yes we mail order dog food ). The container would keep that dry too.

You could always have it delivered to your office address if you have one. That way you can know it won't be left outside.

Don - Unfortunately, that's not an option where I work     I used to do exactly that, but I can't anymore.

You should be able to get the shipper to request that the courier is required to get a signature for the package. That way if you aren't home they will just leave a note that there is a package for you. Then you can either go to their depot to pick it up or arrange for them to deliver it when you will be home.

which courier do people use for posting guitars. I post out to japan and America from the uk and costs me about 150 pounds ( guess around 430 dollars )
Its getting worse and not all companys will insure guitars.

Nathan, that seems strange to me. here the couriers will not leave anything at the door unless I request it. They will leave a note telling me they tried to deliever and when they will try again.arvey39019.4436805556

Well, what I expected to happen, happened. I ordered a drill thingy (technical isn't it?) from Amazon and they shipped it UPS. The UPS guy left it on the wet leaves on the front porch in the rain. Luckily, it was wrapped in plastic on the inside. The inside of the package was wet, though.

Just have them ship it to me. My porch is covered. I'll let you know if it arrived safely or not.

I have had UPS and Fed-X both leave packages in the rain, outside my covered porch area( talk about rude!). I even get wet packages when it isn't raining out. I always use USPS when given a choice. For some reason they take better care of my stuff...Now that's a twist on Govt. vs. Private industry for sure.
