Good Morning OLFers!

I thought I'd start out this morning my making a formal introduction. Although I have been a member for a few weeks now, I've only posted a few times (usually asking for help), I've never really said anything about me. This forum has truely been a Godsend for those of us out in the "sticks" with no other (known) luthiers in the area. So with that:

As the user name says, my name is Chip. I am 40 (41 in June), I live in Ashtabula, Ohio. I am also a displaced tech worker; 15 years in electronics and another 10 in IT (Unix/Windows/Data Center support services). After ejecting wife #2, I decided to fulfill a life long desire to build guitars. I've played since I was about 10, but had a 12 year hiatus that ended when I completed my first instrument.

I chose an archtop for my first guitar. I armed myself with Bob Bennedetto's book and a pile of wood, and went to work. After I saw Bob's Lumber archtop and Taylor's Pallet Guitar, I was inspired to construct my own lumber guitar. I completed it in about 4 months of "spare time".

Having been bitten by the Luthier bug, I started my second guitar, whose rim photo had been posted when I forgot to install side cleats. This guitar is a Bubinga/Curly Maple/Spruce 7 string archtop. I absolutely love the richness the low A gives. I've just completed carving the neck (couldn't wait for the dvd John M.), and will be installing frets today. Even though I haven't finished this one yet, I am planning the third, either a baritone or bass archtop.

Although this forum is wonderful, and the commeraderie phenomenal, I would certainly like to meet other luthiers, exchange ideas, and visit their shops. Anyone live close to Cleveland? I'm not sure if there is a group similar to the Luthiers group in NH, here in or around the Cleveland/NE Ohio area.

I am glad to be a part of such an open, friendly, and darn right inspirational bunch of craftsmen (craftspersons). The level of the craftsmanship among the members here is staggering.

I'm sure that this post should have really gone in as a bio, but I don't feel I am qualified just yet. Lance, you do a bang up job here. The new server is very snappy. Now all you need is an OC-12 directly connected to the server.

OK, I'd settle for an OC-3

IAn OC-3 or OC-12 is a fiber optic pipe to the net. If my memory serves me right, an OC-12 is the equivalent of 24 OC-3 lines, an OC-3 is the quivalent of 24 T3 lines, which is the equivalent of 24 T1 lines. A T1 line is 1.544 MB/s throughput. You do the math for the rest of them.

BTW, what's QUAD racing? We used to have a soapbox derby track on the west side of town. Wait, is it ATV racing?

yes ATV racing, you folks have the worlds most popular TT track there in Ashtabula, and the AMA holds a national event there each year.

I own a couple of interactive marketing firms. We maintain a rack of servers at a co-location facility. They have the whole shebang.... big data pipe, fire supression, diesel power generation, etc.

Chip, a "Thank God it's finally Spring!" welcome from the middle of Michigan! I hesitated on the bio as well because I've built nothing, YET. However, I new that at my rate of progress, it may be quite a while, so why not jump in the bio fray. Besides, it's not what or how many, but the "bitten by the bug" affliction that secures eligibility!

Hey Lance, that ATV racing looks fun. How fast would those racing ATVs go? Me and a few friends race sometimes, not anything like that thought. We don’t even have a real track!
