Sure looks neat, I haven't cleaned my shop since February and I have to remember where I lay something down. Love Serge's alien poster.

Good to see you back in the shop and productive Hesh. The new work space looks much more roomy too, I am looking forward to seeing your current build, make sure you post a lot of pictures and if you can arrange a sound file when you finish tomorrow, that would be great.

Seriously, I am very curious about the Tassi Myrtle, I think it holds great promise.

Cheers

Kim

Sweeeet Hesh. Looking good, love the alian. If you ever decide to change the name of your guitars, it could be alian guitarworks

Lookin' good Hesh!

Nice pic.s Hesh. I will be interested in hearing your thoughts on the workability and sound quality of the Myrtle. It's beautiful wood but you don't see too many instruments out of it.

Roy,

That could well be because you do not see very much Tiger Myrtle period. Tasmanian Myrtle only grows in a relatively small area in...you guessed it, Tasmania Australia.

It was explained to me years ago, that the black spotting is thought to be the result of a fungal attach the affects of which stains the wood but fortunately does not also affect the strength of the timber. For this type of fungus to take hold in a tree, a number of environmental conditions must be present.

This requirement insures that the spotting that defines Tiger Myrtle only ever occurs rarely in tiny colonies of trees that exist within main body and even then the figure displays with varying degrees of intensity.

To find logs that display the intensity shown in the images above is unusual. To then find that figure in logs wide enough to convert into guitar sets is more unusual than finding a chicken in a dentist chair and a real testament to Tim Spittle of Australian Tonewoods ability to source incredibly rare woods.

Cheers

That is beautiful wood. It is good to see that you are doing well and back in the shop. Number 11 is going to be an impressive guitar!

Wow that is some beautiful wood!

What is the story behind the marbles and a degreased bolt in the hot pot as well as the HHG in the fridge for one day before using?

I have bought some and plan to use it eventualy but at the time I bought it I did not even know it had to be heated up

So farI have picked up;
1. Mix up small batches and keep in fridge when not in use.
2. Heat it up. (Bought a hot pot already)

Now THAT will stick to your ribs.

Great looking wood, Hesh, and a fine start today.
Will you be shipping it to Tony next week?

Steve

Looking great in the "Heshtone Shop" bro, glad you are doing better and that the Alien is doing his job well too!

That tiger myrtle looks awesome and i'm sure you will make another stunning guitar with it!

Thanks for posting your progress and keep up the good work!

Well, its's not CCF's, but it's higher protein! Hey that's all it is!

Looking good! Are you going to do any inlays or something, or go for the clean, straight forward look?

Lookin great Hesh, that Tiger Myrtle is very nice. You've sure got your execution skills down!

Your plans to go with a black gloss top on it is still really bugging me. (Sorry - maybe I should keep my thoughts on this to myself).

I like your Hygro-Thermometer clock thingy complete with snooze button.

May be I should shut up to, so I will........................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ....Ok, I just can't

Sorry Hesh, I know it is your wood mate, and I always have enjoyed watching the way you do justice to the zoot you acquire. When you were making plans to do "the burst" a while back, I stood in full support, I could see your vision man and the result was magnificent.

But I just have to say it mate, at this moment you have a selection of truly amazing wood in front of you, and this presents you with a very rare opportunity. First of all you have that excellent Lutzii top from Shane. That stuff has the most beautiful silk, it looks absolutely first class, and I myself could never consider covering it up, but you are not I.

The big issue for me however is that you have the opportunity to be one of the first builders ever to give a critical assessment of Tassi Tiger Myrtle as a tonewood, at the very least you will be the first member to post results of any findings here at the OLF.

As mentioned above, this is a species of timber which is very rare, in all realty is more rare than old growth BRW will ever be. And you had better believe it, I mean will EVER be because it's environment is much smaller, and is shrinking twice as fast.

Given that, I really must wonder about the questions that will remain unanswered once your done, I am certain it will be a fine instrument, yours always are Hesh. But once you add the further dimension of putting a solid colour on that top, it will cloud fair judgement no matter how aesthetically pleasing.

For example, if the sound is disappointing, lets say a little muffled and thin, a little too shallow on the highs or mids, is it the finish on the top? Or is it that nasty tassi myrtle? Or is it just that you don't like the sound of the first small body 00 that you have ever built? Where is the comparison to give you progression and a fair assessment of the woods at hand?

By the same token, should it sound great, as I am sure it will, just how much better could it have been if the the top were left unimpeded by that solid finish???

Sorry mate, I really respect your work, but I have too to say it, for mine I reckon that another Colonial Red Spruce Topped SJ would have been a fitting trial for the Tiger.

Love ya work Hesh

Peace, Love and Cheers

Kim

I think I made the decision to use HHG when I brace my guitar. Well, I
know I have. Hesh, after you run the bead, I know you have about 30
seconds. I read that yesterday but forgot where. Do you flatten/spread
the bead with your finger, or do you run it and plop it straight down on
the top? How long do you clamp?

Go black!

Hesh, looks great all the way around, what is the purfling I see in the last shot, I have only been able to find something similar to that in England. Do you have a source or did you make yourself?

Thanks

Mike
