OK, I think any pro-Cardinals thread ought to be archived immediately and out of the active topics....

Lance?

I have to side with Andy on this one. The Cards or the Royals are the closest thing we have to a home team here in Sunny Oklahoma.

Well, what would you all think if I told you I have never watched a baseball
game in my whole life. No World Series, no watching a game for a couple
minutes on TV, no baseball ever.

Why? Because it's a game for sissies.

Me. Well, I am a hardcore golfer and I when I'm in the mood for crazy
amounts of exercise.........

.....table tennis.

You guys do realise that over on this side of the pond, we call it 'rounders' and it's only played by pre-pubescent girls in primary school.

How come it's called the 'World Series', when it's not open to the rest of the World? Surely it should be the American Series.

"BASEBALL IS FOR SISSIES"!!!???

When I was growing up, the kids who didn't play baseball actually WERE sissies!!!

Simon...with all due respect, that attitude gives hardcore golfers a bad name ...not to mention disrespect to hundreds of millions of baseball players worldwide.

Colin...in a way this is more of a World Series than you might realize. There are a fairly high number of Hispanic and Asian players in Major League Baseball these days.

Oh...BTW...GO CARDS!!!

Well, just on the far chance that anyone took my comment seriously
- baseball is a fine sport. That said, I grew up in a county where soccer
was the primary sport. And I have to admit, there is nothing quite like
indoor soccer. It is like raquetball, where you can be looking directly at
the ball and have it knock you in the back of the head one second later.

First of all, the only reason LaRussa didn't undress Rogers is because HIS guy had the same thing going. DON'T KID YOUR SELF!

Secondly, the players on most MLB teams represent MANY countries around the world. That aint the reason its called the world series, but it sounds good

3rd'ly just cuz I can, Im gonna move this to the off topics forum, then dump it

Kidding of course about the dumping it part

Lance...what LaRussa did was one of the classiest things I've ever seen a manager do. He restrained himself from making a bigger issue out of it due to his respect for Leyland and baseball in general. Bottom line...Rogers came out of the dugout to start the next inning with clean hands. He pitched a fantastic game and I don't believe the foreign substance made any difference in the final analysis.

Gotta go...game's on now.

Good for you Andy. I was beginning to think I was a lone Cardinal fan. Like Dave, they are the nearest thing to a home team that I have here in Arkansas.

GO CARDINALS !!!!

Oh you mean like soccer over here!!

I heard Tommy Lasorda on the radio today trying to drum up viewers for the series here in L.A.. I guess the rating hav'nt been up there!

The Tig's have been in the series so little I guess I'll have to watch and give it a Go Tigers!!

Oh Colin! Anytime the Brit's want to start up a team I'm sure we'll play you! Think how easy it should be for you guys!

The excuse that it has foreign players in it so that makes it a world series doesn't hold water, wher are the Japanese teams in it, the Cuban teams, the Brazilian teams?. Our Premier football league has more foreign players than British players but that doesn't make out FA cup tournament a World Cup! To be called a 'World' anything it has to be organised and regulated by a World governing body, not just be a glorified domestic tournament. World series indeed! You have no idea how irritating the rest of the world finds this sort of thing. End of rant.

Maybe we should call it: "Our Own Little World" Series     That certainly is the American way.

Colin, you did know that my comment was tongue-in-cheek, hence the "That ain't the reason its called the world series, but it sounds good" comment
