Hello,

I'm about to start finishing my first guitar, a blanca flamenco, and I want to make sure I'm not going to do anything stupid .

So, my back and sides are made of cypress, which is a non-porous hardwood, so no filling is needed. The bindings are rosewood though, so I got to fill them. Should I just apply the filler to the bindings, or do the whole back and sides + the bindings and sand them down? Otherwise, I'm wondering how to apply a thin even coat of Z-Poxy only to the bindings without dripping on to the sides or whatever might happen.

Then, I got to fill my Spanish Cedar neck and headstock rosewood veneer... how do I do that with a credit card as mentionned by some?

Also, I decided to give KTM9 a try instead of FPing... is 99.9% methyl hydrate alcohol alright to thin the finish and Z-Poxy? What ratios should I use?

On the neck use (as defined by Robbie O'Brien) your high tech spreading device (your finger) on the binding you could do the same thing. After the pores are filled on the binding and you have sanded back to the wood I would rag on a 60% alcohol 40% Zpoxy mixture over all the back and sides plus bindings. This will leave a very very thin and level coat on them and really pop the color of the wood.

Alright, thanks a lot. So is 99.9% Methyl Hydrate alright? Should I thin the first Zpoxy coat as well?

I would think so

And how much Z-Poxy do you think I need to use to cover the neck/bindings/headplate?

I use standard denatured alcohol...99.?% Ethyl alcohol.

Less than a tablespoon will be about enough to coat those items.

you only will need about an ounce per session for a full guitar, but it can vary from wood to wood. I never mix more than a 1/4 oz at a time because a little goes a long way and it starts setting in about 10-15 min.MichaelP39022.6678125
