So after about a month of building the mould / side bender / gobar deck / radius dishes etc. This afternoon I laid out my plans ready to actualy start building a guitar.

By chance happened to measure my OM size solid Koa rosette and noticed that the ID of the rosette is 102mm and my plans call for a 100mm sound hole ! which would leave only a millimetre of wood between the rosette and the soundhole ( and I'd originaly planned on BW purfling round it !!!)

I'm assuming that 1mm is not enough.

My first thought would be to reduce the soundhole diameter by 1mm and then route the rosette to increse the ID by 2mm thus leaving 2.5 mm of spruce between the rosette and the soundhole. Is this enough ?

Any better ideas ?

I wouldn't reduce the sound hole, it'll change the body resonance.
Why not just make a new rosette with the correct diameter?

Yeah I've kinda been thinking the same. I've got some extra mahogany I bought to practice side bending with. So maybe it'll be a mahogany rosette instead of koa. A bit annoying but at least I noticed before inlaying it !

Yes it is an LMI rosette.

I'd be interested in spreading it if I can ( especialy since I've got a matching headplate)

Is it realy as simple as cutting the rosette and opening it up ? How far can you go with opening up the rosette and how much space should I look to put between the rosette and the edge of the soundhole.

Thanks
