I finally was able to try these beautiful little mini planes that I bought at Lee Valley...

Verdict: Love them! Like they say in the LV catalog, if nothing else, they're great to look at too!

Note: that centre-strip is not glued in. I just rounded out the edges (thanks for the idea, Hesh). This was my first time gluing in the braces first and I really enjoyed doing it this way. No centre-strip in the way when planing the braces, and it's easy to get an air-tight fit fitting the centre-strip afterwards.

Braces sanded to 400 grit.







Since my shop is separated from my house, I had to bring in some equipment/tools to my living room to get some work done since my son was asleep... It was kind of nice working under Trane's watchful eye.

Alain, why not follow Hesh's lead?
I'm thinking of his use of a toilet for his avatar. (Where is that, Hesh?)
Anyway, you could use a sofa, or a Lazyboy for your avatar now. (Or whatever else is in your living room....)

Chris, I've used them for shaping braces... They are excellent for that! Very sharp little blades...

I also used them cleaning up around the sound hole when I thicknessed the top (from the inside).

They're like Japanese wooden planes in the sense that you adjust the setting of the blade with minor 'taps' from a hammer... Once you get the hang of it, you're golden...
