Check out the plans at LMI. I made the small guitar from the Antes plans and it worked well.

I would use standard tuners on the size 5 Martin plans or any plans you decide to go with. Check out Shane's selections at High Mountain Tonewood. And he would be the guy to answer this question.
Good luck
Doug

I'm about 3/4 way through a kid's guitar for a work collegue. I've never used plans.

I shrunk a Lowden jumbo outline by about 20%

made the body (with a cutaway)

then cut off a fender scale fingerboard at the 3rd fret.

A little measuring and I have a 11th fret neck/body join.

The kid is 7. he wont mind this dangerous breach of tradition!!!

The Antes 3/4 plans are for a size 5 martin. I compared them to an early 1900's size 5 and they are very close to the one I saw., Close enough that diferences would be ascounted for by variation in building alone. As far as the tunners I use either the Grover 18:1 open Backs or Waverly. I wouldn't use minis. I also sounds best in Terz tunning. Amazing sound,\.
