I can't stop laughing, the responses to this thread are hilarious. Perhaps I should I post in yellow?

Just a guess, but is the change because some confuse forum tenure with luthier experience? How about a special symbol by those guys who have made a 50+ guitars, they've earned the recognition, IMO. It would be nice to know who they are.
Or we could just drop designations, (and the star system) altogether. Number of posts merely denotes ones number of posts and nothing more.
Absolutely Steve, drop the designations and stars altogether then and just stick to the number of posts. The colours are completely meaningless and totally unneccessary.

In Mario's absence I'll say it .. sheesh!

LORDY! lets not make a mountain out of a mole hill.
There will be lots of changes coming in the not so distant future, were looking in to new software packages and who knows what that will bring.

Don't sweat the small stuff, this is hardly worthy of arguing over.

Brock I see the point, but it is silly to some degree.

I then would vote that only number of posts be displayed. to heck with the colors and or any moniker based on number of posts. Just an opinion.

Seems we are getting to big now day for our old britches

Kind of a shame though. I remember with quite fondness when a laugh was as important as a lute around here

How about these:

Finger cutter
Epoxy Needer
Binding gapper
Finish fixer
Wood filler

This way, we're all on equal ground.

Brock, any reason for the change?
Yes what's the reason for this?

I know that this is your's and Lance's sandpit and we play under your rules, but isn't this the sort of thing that it would have been nice to ask the forum members opinions about first? Although you provide the facility, the members 'are' the forum.

Colin
We all just got through a big squabble a few days back, so I really don't want to make this into a big deal... but people could not get over the fact that the levels had nothing to do with a members prowess as a luthier and insisted on trying to infer that we have relative beginners with the status of "Grizzled Veteran" etc.

.. frankly I was just sick of hearing about it.

This way everyone is on equal footing with respect to skill yet we still can determine who are our long standing members and who are our newer members.
Brock, I think that's just another reason to drop levels altogether and just leave the number of posts as someone has already suggested. This forum isn't and shouldn't be about egos or competition...if that's the end result of having levels of any kind maybe we should abandon them across the board and get on with discussing guitars! By the by, how's the Luthier Showcase coming?

So what...who cares...get over it.

I just hope we can attract and keep the experienced, quality, professional luthier after "The Fiasco"

Has to be said though Lance, that you and Brock do a fantastic job with our little corner of cyberspace.

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

I can't believe it! I was so happy with the old system. I used to brag about how good it was.

This new one makes me so mad I could ^%$@.

I demand that we change back right now!

OK that was fun.
Yes, I'm kidding.

With respect to "dropping" the names. That is easier said than done. If we drop the levels then everybody goes back to 0 posts. Nobody will like that. We can't leave the titles blank (the software rejects the change).

And as much as I explained the previous system and how it merely represented your participation in the community, and not your skills as a luthier I continued to draw fire (albeit by some who are probably just trying to stir the pot) about it.

And, it just seems like a prudent thing to do to go to something that has no obvious "ranking" associated.

If we can come up with something clever and humorous, but without passing any value judgement on someones skills then I see no objection to changing it.

However, this is such a teeny tiny issue, that I don't think it is worth makeing into a huge "thing".

Thats great Brock...
how about we start out as a Mando or a Ukelele and slowly climb up to larger istruments like a Classical guitar , 6 string, 12 strings... and sponsors could be Baritones??

Just a funny idea! Besides I need more posts so I can be purple like Hesh and Serge!

That's good too peter, but some would think that size matters or something silly like that
