Hi Folks,
I am getting ready to finish my first bracing job.
I was wondering how everybody seals the X brace at the cross X? Many references say to use a piece of muslin soaked in Titebond. In some books I have seen them use a small piece of spruce to cover the X ?
What's your view on this?
Thanks, Walter

Small spruce cover locks in the X...the only way to go.

I wouldn't say that a spruce splint is the only way to go, but it's becoming
the norm. An awful lot of Martins have lasted a long, long time with the
muslin, but there may be a structural advantage to the spruce. I like the
looks, too.

I use the spruce splint. A little less than an 1/8" thick and about 1" in length, and the width of the brace. I use hide glue for this.

A small spruce or whatever (wood) splint is the only way I go. I kinda like what Chris Jenkins does but it may be a little too much, who knows.

Is that just a round disk? It's hard to tell on this monitor.

It is a round disk but I think it is made up of several thin pieces laminated together.
