...since I last posted here, but I read frequently and the thread about x-braced backs has inspired me in my current build.

So, lets do one of those "Whats on your workbench" threads. They always inspire me .

I'll start by showing pics of my two current builds, one is a cocobolo/red spruce OM/GC-ish guitar and one is a 00 with fourpiece braz/red spruce.

I'm always happy to see your excellent work, Lars. I've been thinking of an open rosette design much like yours, so it's good to know it can be done. Of course, first I'd have to aquire your level of skill...

Not as hard as it may seem.. a sharp chisel and a LOT of time is the key .

I start by making the coco pieces, just glue them to a paper and rout them with the dremel circle cutter, and then I get small pieces just like the pearl you get for rosettes. I treat them the same way when fitting and inlaying them.

Then you cut the channel but leave the area that is the "opening", make shure to mark it good! The rest is cutting the corners with a chisel or xacto, fit the little short purlingbits at the end(I think made about 20 before they fit properly...) Miter the inner and outer purf-rings to fit and glue it all down with the cocobits.

A good tip here is to use a short steel ruler to press the miters together, and then tape the ruler to the face of the top. Its also easier to get a good fit if you make shure not to get any glue in the miterjoint...

Its nice to get questions! That channel is just me being sloppy when cutting out the soundhole... it seems like the coco dulled the bit a little (hrrm) and it started to behave weird on my second or third cut when cutting th soundhole(can you see the rough edge?) so I just moved in the bit a little on my final cut so I wouldnt make it worse...Lars Rasmussen39042.662974537

Well, I guess I'll show and tell.

I'm working on a curly maple OM with cedar top.

Here are some pics of the progress.

Top and Back



Rosette, spalted maple with double w/b purfling inside and outside.



Back braced up and ready to attach to the body (not as clean as Lance, but I'm getting there.



And the body with head and tail block glued in, ready to profile and line.

Yup, i admit being a bit sloppy at times but...iwas trying to catch up on Alain and... well, i cleaned it up afterwards!

That is shaping up to be one incredible geetar - keep up the good work - PS love that bracing - looks very nice.
