Well, I hope I am back for awhile. I have been very quite for the last two weeks as I took care of a few family responsibilities.

Some of you know that my wife's Grandfather had a heart attack, that led to 14 days of hospitalization before he passes away at the old age of 89. The Funeral was yesterday, and leading up to that was two weeks of playing Mr Mom, taking care of the kids, both mine and my Sister inlaws. Running Lances Taxi service, and trying to sneak in a few hours in the shop here and there. I know I've been a little testy lately, even barked kinda loud in a post last week I do apologize for that.
Now that things are back to normal,( relative term) I can get back to life.

Below are three rosettes that I did manage to get done over the last week.

Brazilian/TB Redwood


Coco/Spruce (not yet leveled.)

Have you worked with the TB (Tono Basso, isn't it?) redwood before? I'm curious what it's like to work with it. I've got one or two parlor size sets of it in my stash, it looks like nice stuff.

Jon,
First time using the TB, I decided on this wood for its
potential bass response to go on my little 0-12 thinking it will need a little more ommph! on the bass end. Full report coming after shes done. Hoping some time next month or so.

Jon, I have a couple sets as well and have used one so far. I think it is pretty typical redwood, a little brittle but not too bad, treat it with care as it will gather dings while your building your guitar. It they're not too deep, they'll steam out. It's very good redwood though.

Lance, so sorry to hear of your loss...my family's moving into those times as well and it's a handful to say the least! In the last 3 months I've only been out to my shop to get a hammer to hang a photo for my wife... ...but, tomorrow's another day and things will get better! By the by, the rosettes are your usual great work! Hope the dust collector's working great for you as well!

The DC is working fantastic! Its making me wonder if I even ever need a bigger unit. I have every power tool plumbed and my shop has never been cleaner.

Very sorry for your loss, Lance. The importance of family and being there for each other can't be overestimated, and puts things into much needed perspective sometimes. Even guitarmaking

Boy, am I behind the times ... what's "TB" redwood? I've got a stack of redwood; should I be concerned about my health?

Hoping you can now relax and enjoy the shop more, very nice rosettes BTW!

I can empathise about your loss, Lance, and the sometimes feeling of being overwhelmed with responsibilities. We all have similar feelings from time to time. I, too, am a little stretched thin, which is why I often find myself thinking about what lies in wait in the shop!

Carlton, the 4 piece back is almost a boat. The sides are bend, the back is done, and the neck and end blocks are in, liners are next, then I get to close it up
