I was shopping online today, at US Plastics, to replenish my stock of small squeeze bottles for hide glue and I stumbled upon an item that may be of interest to some of you. Here is a link -

It is a LDPE disc. I use these to line my radius dishes when gluing top and back braces. I used to use newspaper but often times the newspaper would stick to the back or top. These are translucent so you can easily center your plates on the dish. These work great and glue will not stick to them. I bought mine in rectangular sheet form from MSC and cut my own discs but these are a pretty good deal and thought I would pass it on.

Thanks, Tim. LOTS of useful stuff there. If it's plastic, it looks like they've got it.

BTW, those discs are a clearance item, and they're really cheap--so get 'em now!

I guess I don't understand? Line a radius dish? Huh? What for? Why? Me no understand....sorry if I'm dense...

...so your braces don't stick to it when they are longer than the top/back.

Just cut out a circle from a roll of 6 mil poly, price...free! They throw the stuff out by the arm loads at construction sites. If you are like me, you are always building stuff so you seem to always have a roll around. Also...your kitchen prbably has wax paper in it.....

I use craft paper...StewMac gives it away free with every order I've never had it stick to the top or back.

My dishes are made from particle board and ocassionally a nugget of hide glue gets dropped on the dish and it blends right in. No matter how careful I am sometimes I miss the nugget and then plop a top down (over news paper, wax paper, visqueen or the like) and I end up with a dent in a pristene top.

These LDPE discs have been a great help to me because the glue doesn't stick to them and it shows up on it so you can easily see it, they are thick enough that it masks any slight imperfections and the ocassional void in the dish.

Just thought I would share for those who may have an interest. Yep, lots of ways to skin a cat. This is just one that has proved beneficial to me.

Speaking of other uses:

Cut smaller discs to place on top of a newly glued rosette then stack heavy weights on top of it to hold everything nice and tight while the glue dries.

Cut some small square or rectangles. Makes great squeegies for Z-poxy or spreading other adhesives.

Makes gread clamping caul liners for clamping headstock veneers.

Maybe I'm dense too.... but why not just cut the excess off your braces before hand?
