Looks good Peter! How will the strings get over the transverse brace with the rest of your inards on the outside

edit: OK I'm seeing it now! Your other side will step over the neck block so the treble side is bent tighter in the upper bout to give you more access to the upper frets. I am trying remember where I have seen this...Should be cool!

Langejans Earl Klugh model does that .. I also saw it somewhere else in the GAL maybe ...

So in effect the blcok is not outside, its still inside the upper piece correct - you are just connecting the lower side half to the rear of it, or it could be a deeper block and have a slot to accept the side into it.

Neat idea on how to do this ...

before building such an unusual design in primo woods i would try it in some common woods to work out the kinks and "prove" the concept. it is a practice i was taught early on that whenever i build a new shape, style, etc., to build such a prototype to workout any kinks in the building technique and sequence as well as sort out tonal issues, etc.

if i like it the prototype can be given away as a gift or sold as an unbranded handbuilt.

Tony you are correct. The block is only outside the lower part and the top will go over the block. I wanted to do a different cutaway design and thought that would be pretty cool. Never saw the Langejans model but now I gotta go check it out!

Maichael, here's how I look at it... its just a design difference... in reality it will have no impact on the sound since its only another cutaway. If it doesn't work out at least in nice woods it will be a real nice piece of decoration!

Paul McGill builds a collector's edition with a "drop-shoulder" design similar to what you are attempting.



Paul belongs to many of the online forums and seems to be a great guy. You might want to drop him a note and ask him his advice on this design and I'm sure that he'll share any hints he many have.
