Chris,

Thanks for this review. I've been looking at and considering one of those HF benches myself. I checked those item #'s at HF's site, and note that the 4 drawer model is a 'Truck Item' which is subject to an additional $50 or more shipping charge. I live about 45 min away from a HF retail store, so I could save that, but would have to pay sales tax of 8.25%. Still a good deal.

If you look at the weight difference between the 2 benches you'll see that the one with drawers is 111 lbs, whereas the other is only 65 lbs. That's why the extra $50. Which tool chest at HD are you talking about?

I put together a bench using a salvaged bearueau, some cutoff 2x4s and two pieces of 3/4" MDF. The thing wieghs a ton and cost me around $25.

It would be nice to get something a little more refined...Good find, Chris.

Chris, sometimes a bench can seem sturdy and wiggle-free, but shows its true nature when you start doing some agressive sanding or planing. Test it out. If it starts rocking back-and-forth you might want to add some stretchers to the legs, as well as bolting the legs to the floor.
