For those who are using the Williams-Fleisman binding jig...What type of router bit/bearing are you using to cut your binding channel? How do you make adjustments?

i now use a rebate type bit that tracy was offering for a while, similar to those offered by lmi and s-m. the height of the cut is adjusted by the router's mechanism, whilst the depth of cut is determined by the bearing selected.

previously i used a spiral with an adjustable follower bearing.

i much prefer the rebate type for its ease of adjustment.

I use the LMI bearing bit set.
I love it.

I use a downcut spiral for trimming the soundboard and the stew-mac bearing/bit set for binding/purfling channels.

Hi Brad,
    I use the Stew Mac bit and bearing set and a Bosch laminate trimmer with mine. Have had good luck with it with no tear-out. So far, I haven't had to adjust the cut width for the ivoroid bindings I use. But some folks wind thin strips of aluminum tape, or masking tape, around the bearings for getting different binding channel widths.

The depth adjustment on the Bosch works well enough. It's a lot like the depth-setting system on the Dewalt and Porter Cable 7310 trimmers.

I use the Stewmac set with a PC310. Works good, but wish there was a larger variety of bearing sizes. I use tape around the bearings when needed...

LMI Bearings and Bit
...they have more sizes
...you're able to do purfling channels first or last. I believe with the S-M setup you must do the bindings first.

I bought both LMI and Stew-Mac because they covered slightly different sizes. I like the LMI better because the bearing is further from the bit, and you don't necessarily need to do the bindings first.
