I never cared much for his music, or his personality, myself, but there's no denying his impact on the music scene.

One major name in the soul music scene, he sure will be missed by many.

So true.

I played in a band back in the '80s -- two guitarists, bass and drums (no horns). Two of the tunes we played, where us guitarists had to cover the horn parts, were "I Feel Good" and "Pappa's Got a Brand New Bag." They would typically get the best crowd reaction out of all the tunes we played.

Up until 1969 (when I got drafted) I played in a big band -
Organ, guitar, bass, drums, and 5 horns. We played almost all of the songs that James Brown ever recorded. He had a knack for creating a groove that was almost hypnotic. We were really good, but he was the real deal.
