The man's genius. I've bumped into him on a fair fer forums and MAN you gotta respect what he has to say.....

He is, (in my flawed way of looking at the world) the Simon Cowell of Lutherie. He may be blunt in how he says it, but y'know, 99% of the time (at least) he is exactly right!!

Anyone has a pic of that famous guitar please?

     The man is one of the real forces in the world of lutherie today. Great
knowledge and a very scientific approach to building, but still careful to
maintain the artistic flair as well. His advice and ideas should find their
way into the notebooks of anyone who reads them....they WILL come in
handy for any luthier at one time or another. Great sound advice offered
with few frills and one of the rare no nonsense deliveries still given
without an offensive or self inflating attitude or tone.

    Also, Rick's guitars are always a pleasure to see and to play and their
tone has filled a niche in the industry that belongs to them alone. I love
his ideas and designs and have watched the istruments evolve over the
years into the world class innovation showcases that they are today.

     He's one of my favorite people in the industry and he deserves any
accolades that come his way.

I saw him on the OLF last evening. When I got my magazine a couple weeks back, I and saw Lindsey Buckingham, well I automatically knew he was holding a Turner. Yeah, we do miss him, but there is hope...

I'm new to the forum, but Rick has a very nice website. Not to hi-jack this thread, but does anyone know a source for the "Santa Cruz County Sycamore" he uses- it's shown on his Ukulele page. Thats a fabulous looking instrument. I live right over the hill from Santa Cruz. I'm gonna have to visit some small sawyers around here...

I live in SCruz and I asked about that Sycamore because I like it too. Answer was that it's not available commercially, and they get it up in Bonny Doon, they didn't say from whom. Maybe Rick or someone at his shop cuts it.
I just bought some nicely figured Sycamore off eBay for less than $50.
