Lance, I use a mortise and tenon joint, but the mortise is on the top of the guitar and the tenon in under the fingerboard extension. Here's a photo.



This neck design is "heel-less" but I use the same joint on a traditonal neck with 1 additional bolt through the neck block. The mortise & tenon joint remains the same.

Jimmy,

Would it be possible to see more pictures of your neck joint? I need to see a few more close ups to really understand how it all fits together. If you can that would be great!

Lances orriginal question is an interesting one (although the discussion has left it and moved on to why glue down at all). The orriginal question was why scape the finish off to get wood to wood. I've thought of trying one with the FBEXT glued down to the finish (I french polish all my guitars) but I haven't built an experimental guitar for some time and I would hate to sell someone a guitar and discover it isn't a good idea.
