Southworth papers are ACID NEUTRAL (not Acid Free); I am not competent to answer your particular question about its acceptability for use on your instruments but will confer with one of my colleagues who may contact you. We have no expertise in glues.

Okay, now I have some 100 percent acid free paper coming to my mailbox, with metal flakes in it. On to find permanent ink and glue. bd

Bruce, my dad is a printer and my grandfather was a printer. so I've grown up around that industry all my life.
There are a ton of new inks out there but my recomendation would be any oil based ink. If you get into the water, rubber or soy based inks you might not have the longevity you need. But anything oil based will last and last. Another great thing to do is spray both sides of the label prior to afixing it. If air, moisture, uv rays can't get to it, the enviromental effects will be minimal. Paper and ink don't fade by themselves. They are reacting to either air, moisture or uv rays. I'd still consider hide glue to be your best afixing property. though I've heard of people using nitro on the back and then slapping it on and letting the nitro hold it in place.

I have used archival acid free mounting materials for B&W photographic prints. I bought these materials from a company called Light Impressions. In addition, they carry museum archiving supplies...possibly including glues. It was my recollection that you could get any color you wanted as long as it's white to be considered archival...but just as a little bit of knowledge is dangerous, so is my memory.

I'll check it out today but I just wanted to pass along this source for others to investigate as well.

One thing I keep thinking about is...how acid-free is the wood substrate upon which the label rests??? The point is...I'd bet that acid free paper is not going to make much difference. Perhaps it's just good quality cotton rag paper with non-fading archival ink we should be pursuing. I contend that the ink is more important...IMHO
