No, not the Carbon Footprint, but carbon rods...

I have acquired two metre long 4mm diameter pultruded carbon fibre rods, and was wondering whether this would be suitable for inlaying into the neck shaft, either side of the truss rod.

Basically I was wondering whether the equivelent diameter rod of mahogany would have the same "bend" and strength as the rods I bought. I cannot make mahogany rods to test, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether it may be worth installing these rods.

If not, then my kids are gonna get a nice new handmade stunt kite to play with with all the wind we've had lately..

Sam, you really want a rectangular cross-section for what you use in necks. Round has a lot more natural flex to it. That said, if you make the slot rectangular and bury two rods one on top of another in epoxy, both sides of the truss rod slot, that could work. You could do one each side, but two would be better for stiffness.

I think I'll get the rectangular rods. Thanks, Don.
