Hey ya'll,

I've come up with what I think is a fun idea.

I'm about half way through reading Clapton's guitar (which is a fun read by the way) and I had an idea.

What if we were to gather a list of OLFer's who would read the book than pass it along to the next person on the list. This way all you'd have to pay for the book is the cost to send to the next person on the list. We wouldn't really have to do more than send it our own national post of course.

I thought it would be really cool if we can all sign the inside somewhere and/or write notes or comments about a part we liked or found funny etc...feeling free to add a loose piece of paper for each consecutive person to read.

Would any of you be interested in this? I thought that this would add to the cool community many of us have called a second home

I would like the book back at some point, maybe a year or two or three later, so you'd have to read it in say a couple of weeks and get it off to the next one on the list (depends on how big this list grows I guess).

If you've read the book already, you may still want to sign this one and add a note.

Lets start the list here so it's all in one spot.

I'll PM you guys to get your shipping address to make up the list.

I'm thinking we should give it a couple of weeks (I should be done the book by than) and then start the book on its journey.

I've really liked Claptons stuff since I was kid. Like it or not I think you'll
see more of me. Just finshed carving my first neck. I think I'm hooked. Any
suggestions on how to convince your wife you have found a new hobby that
may be taking up most of your time?

Danny, just build one, at every step that you will complete and that you'll be satisfied and excited with, you'll go get your wife and drag her to the shop to show her what you've just done, like a big kid grinning from ear to ear, she'll just see how happy you are and will let you have fun with your passion that keeps you away from the bars and troubles. The best part is when you put strings on no 1 and it makes sound, WHOOOOOAAAA! Now, you get so excited that cry out of joy and she'll buy you all kinds of tools for Christmas!

What does it cost to ship to Ireland or England or Australia? We don't want to leave anyone out do we?

We should write the shipping cost inside the cover too, from the last guy I mean....

Great idea Rod, great idea. We could have an entire library enroute at all times, simply for the cost of postage and a book.

If everyone who signed up starts a different book.... you'd have a library of seven going out the door asap.... We could call it the OLFLL....

Yeah, it could become a "Book of the Month" club.

I've got a great idea (in my own mind)! How about we each hand deliver it to an OLFer? Work out a path that minimizes drive time and we wouldn't need to ship it until we reach an ocean. Be like the pony express!!!

I would participate but you guys don't want to wait for me to get finished. I'm a painfully slow reader. I did read it once which I liked a lot.
It's a great idea Rod and I think we could make it a reguar thing. Though I'd be bummed if I got a book back and it had someone else's muffin crumbs in it.

Count me in, that's a great idea! Also, feel free to put me lower on the list. I'd like to see what everybody else is writing.

I agree with Bruce, I don't want to leave anyone out. Making sure that all of the OLFer's get a chance at the book so when the list is "finalized" I'll try and come up with a route which makes the shipping the least cost for people, it really should be to much though.

As far as the condition of the book goes, I've resolved my self to the fact that it will have been on a very cool journey, including muffin crumbs and all.

I certainly expect that it will be respected and comments will be civil as well, but I'm not concerned that it gets "read". That is also what will make this book "age" well.

Who knows, maybe we have a member who isn't too far from Wayne Henderson's shop and could make a little trip to get him to sign it too Maybe a trip on the third Saturday in June, rain or shine (once you've read the book you'll understand )

That's a really cool idea, Rod. I'm very much interested.

However, I do have a few concerns.

1- That like many of the book I've loaned out, this one will get stuck somewhere and disapear. True, we'll know who has it. Still, it can disapear in transit as well...

2- If I'm early enough in the list, I won't to read what all the other OLF'ers had to say and add.

Maybe once the book has done the whole circuit, the people on the top of the list (people who read it first) will get to see it again?

Just a thought.

Nice thought Bruce but it'd be cheaper for me to go out and buy a copy. A back and side set usually costs about $US50 to ship out here.

I just ordered a $13.50 set of blade stabilisers for Shanes fret slotting blade, and the shipping was $US36.50. Ouch

In "Nine Horses," Billy Collins wrote a poem about writing in the margins
of books. I've looked through all my shelves and can't find the book to
write it out for you guys! All I remember is the way he said not to share a
book unless you're willing to write, "No!" or, "Yes!" or something in the
margins.

I'll tell you what folks. I really would like to have the book go overseas and I will pay the shipping to Europe and to Australia as long as when it's in the respective continents that you folks pass it around to one another via your own post systems.

Is it a deal?
