Hey Terry:

Haven't heard of the dulling problem, but it kind of makes sense. The problem (danger) with oven cleaner, is that it can break down the brazing where the carbide teeth are attached to the blade, resulting in failure of the braze.

The product I use is "Simple Green" You can get it at most home centers and many grocery stores. 1 gallon of concentrate is about $10. I mix it 1 to 1 with water, and in about 10 minutes (or less) the resin just comes right off.

I have a 4oz pump bottle of stuff called "Blade and Bit: Resin, Gum and Pitch Remover". Made by the makers of Boeshield T-9: PMS Products, 800 962 1732. It works well.

Hadn't thought of using Simple Green. It works well on my motorcycles, though

Best,

I use CMT blade and bit cleaner as well. Works well and is supposedly non-toxic. Haven't tried Simple Green.

Todd, was the CMT product included in your tests?

I wipe with some acetone. Cleans easily and quickly.

I had really good luck with the CMT stuff until I ran out. It was one of the best products I had used in a long time (far exceeded expectations). The only problem with CMT cleaner is that it was expensive....$10 + per bottle (as I recall) I will probably try Simple Green since I can buy it locally rather than at Woodcraft across town.

I have the CMT and I do like how it works, but I am not fond of its smell. I will give the Simple Green a try next time. Thanks for the tip.
