We had a big wind storm. My friend's father lost his maple.
Knowing I like building dulcimer he called me We worked hard and cleaned it up and I took some select rounds. We painted the cut end of the 8FT. by 4ft. trunk and left the root ball. We were going to finish the job today and transport it to my house. Last night some low life stole it !*****!! .

A garage or wrecking yard owner i used to know caught a thief under his van one night after many car parts theft, he said he pulled the guy by his legs and when he saw the thief's face, he gave him one of those maniac smiles, what follows is horror stuff and ends with this thief barely walking with the cold wind pushing him after he had promised with his teeth missing that he would never ever steal again.

Thanks for letting me vent I was really looking forward to building with it about five years from now. You know the mojo of from tree to inst. by my hand with reverence and thanks, remembering the many times I had rested in its shade.

I need to let it go for my own sake.
I like myself in ways a thief can not.

I helped to vent thanks.

There was a piece on the local news tonight about this very thing. There is a man who has been busted 8 or 9 times already. Because of the laws here, he's walked each time even though we are talking thousands of dollars of wood each time. Hopefully things will change.

Ya know, Ike Turner was saying "Womens be think'in too much"! But I like your style Lillian!

You got a sinister? Er, I mean, a sister?

I think I mentioned before, my buddy lost a big branch off a large walnut and he had three guys stop by asking if he wanted to sell the tree!

I've never heard of tree stealing! Looks like somebody needs to write to their state congressman!

Billy, Mom shipped me off to boarding school when I was sixteen, telling me that there wasn't enough room in the house for the two of us and she had been there longer. Nope, there is only one girl in our family. I have three brothers I'm willing to give away though. Don't think their wives would object too much either. Oh, y'all don't have to worry, I've mellowed over the years.

Not really interested in the brothers, but I'll have to change my Match.com profile to ask about paint ball freezers!

Kirby, with all the ice storms maybe there will be some others that will need a tree worked. Sure a bummer though! Working your own lumber to instrument is a cool aspect of this work.

Wild Bill I live in central Wa. the ice storms are a ways away. My income right now is such that the loss of the lumber really sucks, but life has its ups and downs
and who knows things may happen that the loss becomes insignificant.

I have certain beliefs that many would find amusing so I do not inflict them upon others much.

But,
I made promises to that maple that I now can only partially keep and the real loss for me is in that direction.

Life is a series of lessons to be enjoyed , so I will keep on breathing, enjoying and hopefully learn something.

The goofball I love to be.

                          thanks

If you are talking Wenatchee, that's not that far. Its about as long to get there as it will be to get to Rod's, as long as someone doesn't get stupid at the border and it gets shut down.

We'll have to visit someday.

Kirby, I only said something because I think we are in the same boat (dingy) at the moment. No pressure, there will be no inspections, no reports, promise. If you are ever in the mood for company, just speak up.

KO you prolly dont know that I was shot and paralysed at my home 5 years ago, when I was robbed by some punk kids, as you joined the OLF after I explained my story to the members here,

I spent nearly a decade collecting nice wood prior to that incident - so much hard work and sweat blood and tears was put into that shed of goodies. It was salvaged mostly from logging slash piles, beaches, and wherever I could find it and lovingly cured.
Being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my life was one thing, but I came home from rehab 6 months later to find my woodshed cleaned out - I cried, I really did! The sad thing was that everyone on the island I lived on knew what was happening with me - and some scumsucker used it as an opportunity to rip me off.
There are some sad sorry people in this world!

Luckily none of them are here at the OLF, I havent met any anyhow.

Cheers

Wow, I knew there was low-life among us, but I didn't realize that there are so many soulless people walking upright.

Charlie, your story is one of great courage and moral strength, you not only have my outmost respect bro but a certain admiration for how you deal with adversity. I'm honored to be on the same forum with such great people as you my friend.

Regards

Serge

Charlie thanks for sharing your story I get nervous about revealing to much as this is a public forum. About four years was dealt a setback and am on disability. I am getting better and should be able to recover fully to return to working for a living in the near future.

While I never made more than a modestly comfortable living finding myself having to start completely over at 40 something leads me to be a little self conscious.

As to the other, it's wood that is more than wood sometimes, a feeling of having developed a connection with it that allows you to create something a little special.

Funny ya mention Scarface. In 1982 I got out of the army and went home to Vegas. Was in the living in the wrong neighborhood, got a nice scar under my left eye courtesy of one of those Cubano criminals that Castro let loose upon us. Was cross eyed for a year. Got called Scarface for years was annoying as h***. Then the movie comes out and I have a grand ole time doing the Tony Montoya accent.

Kirby, Thanks for sharing your story too, very touching and humbling. Difficult challenges that you and Charlie have encountered in life, reading both stories makes me want to be a better person, there used to be a time where i found strength in pride as a mean of survival. Nowadays though, i feel like humbleness is a better form of courage and strength. More peaceful anyway...

Thanks again my friend

Serge

Serge in my case the challenge is not really that difficult. Life happens so I might as well do things that I enjoy.

Kirby, you know i'm a believer, i think that no one can really understand what others go through untill they really walk in their shoes and when i say this, i mean it in an the emotional and physycal journey that one has to live with(fear, sorrow, pain, hurt). Each one of us is sensitive to outside influences to a certain degree, hard to measure how sensitive anyone can be to anything.

Sensitivity has wrongly and for too long been associated with weakness. Sensitivity forces you to become strong morally and spiritually if you have one ounce of self esteem and another ounce of pride.

I'm a sensitive person and it's no secret to anyone here, i laugh, i love, i share and to some people, it would seem that my life has always been a walk in the park but it wasn't always like the golden days that i'm living now, i've had my share of fears, hurt, violence, immorality, depression, dependances to everything.

God was always there to protect me while growing up and still is today for me, He made the sensitive person that i am so that i could touch people around me. When i read testimonies such as yours and Charlie's, i sort of relate and i am touched to the core. I don't mind not talking about religions because i'm not the religious type but i believe in God and can't turn my back on Him and when i read miracle stories, it just reaffirms to me how strong He really is.

Regards

Serge your a kind individual and I have a feeling we both have experienced alot of old school things that used to be so commonplace, like dependances, in its various forms, and violence, and pain in general...... the road of excess does lead to the palace of wisdom - eventually!
You are very hunble my friend I can only hope to be as good a person as you are one day.
Cheers
