I can't get the pictures to load! I just read where Hesh had the same problem. I'll try later. Clinton

The problems with using too much water in my experience is that the sides can become uneven, cupped, the colors tend to run, figured woods may develop "washboard" or in the case of flamed maple disintegrate. I see no advantages in it.

OK I made a link to my pictures. Steve if you have anything that resembles this side I'd be interested. By the way, I tried bending that side with lots of water,no water and everything in between. Broke all 8 times!! Get this, I bent the other side's waist,no problem. Maybe ovangkol back and something else for sides?? Clinton

Clinton, take a break bud, get out of the shop for a little while, at least, give it a thought, the way things are going for you now ain't looking good.

I know you've been advised a couple of times to use a bender and your choice of wanting to feel the wood is admirable but some woods are tougher to bend than others and the bender really helps with those so may i suggest you give it some thought as well?

I know that for me, bending sides is easier with the bender, i never bent sides on a hot pipe but i did bend some bindings and i've had a hard time.

Wise choice bud, wise decision!

It will give you time to evaluate all the options that are out there for you and if you ever consider trying a bender, Bruce Dickey shows how to build one the easy way in the tools and jigs section up here.

Good luck

Serge
