I just had a phone message from someone who said they wanted me to clear coat over a signature on their guitar. I don’t know who signed it or what kind of marker was used. Can I spray nitro over a signature without the ink running? If anyone has done this I would appreciate some advice.

Be aweful careful Josh! It will probably work as long as the nitro is not allowed to run. Most markers are alcolhol based and lacquer thinner is a great way to remove them from unwanted, kid installed, locations. Try it on some scrap and see what happens, lay down a couple of coats, sign your name and then clear over it.

Depending what and where it is .. put a clear piece of mylar pickguard over it ..

2 things - the signature might run - or who knows what the underlying finish is, and whether anything will really stick to it for any length of time.

I like that idea! I think the guitar is a fairly cheap electric and I have no idea what the finish would be. The pickguard idea would probably be the easiest solution.

If its a cheap electric, its not likely nitro, likely poly of one sort, and nitro wont stick that well, especially if you cant rough it up.
