Funny,
nobody has mentioned Adi.
I have a koa (birds eye) and red spruce triple o in the hopper-it taps real nice-can't wait to hear it.

Koa with cedar is super. Also redwood if you want a bit more punch. Both top woods have qiuck uptake of string energy input, so they are ideal for fingerpicking, especially if you use bare fingertips. Also, consider Englemann spruce if you want a "white" faced instrument.
If you want to hear a cedar/koa, go to the Audio page on my website (http://www.mauelguitars.com/audio.htm) and listen to Duane Clark "Steady On" or one of the Doug Smith cuts (guitar used is listed next to the song title).
I'd post a photo, but the OLF site seems to be experiencing trouble with uploading photos at this time.

Sorry, didn't check the forum yesterday and see i missed some of yous.
Greg - thanks for trying with the pic - hope we get a
chance to see your guitar when things are back up
       and running again
Robbie - want to thank you again for all your help and
patience. If i ever get to the point of building
a guitar that compares with one of yours, i'll be
very happy. Will try and get some pics up when i
can - looks pretty much the same as the last you
saw it. Have tuned it up and very pleased with
sound. Have a long way to go before considering
myself a "luthier" but with folks like you and
the good people here, just may have a shot at it.
j - thanks also for all your help. You guys did teach
this old dog a bunch of new tricks - just hope i can
keep adding to them. How's that Black Limba Bass
    coming along?
Hesh - thanks for your comparisons of the different woods
very detailed, and gives me a good base line to
start from. Took note of price comparisons of adi
and lutz. Did have a chance to tap a lutz top that
Robbie had in class, and even with my limited
knowledge, there was a striking difference between
it and the sitka tops most of us used. Oh - got
your meaning fine - must be because i grew up out
east of Flint so i get that Michigan accent
Brad - there were some other votes for adi, also had a
chance to tap a classmate's adi top that was quite
impressive. hope to see (and hear) your koa/adi
when it's done - thanks and will check out your
       site!
Hank - nice website, beautiful guitars and the sound
bites were very helpful - thanks much

You have all been very helpful. Got far more response than i expected and have much to think about and absorb.
At the speed i work, would take me years to fully explore
all these suggestions!
Thanks again.
