Huummmmm. All played on electric guitars.

Alright Hesh- Allman Brothers Stormy Monday is on my list. However, I contend that the finest electric guitar blues solo = Ain't Gon' Give Up On Love - SRV Tribute Album; you guessed it, Eric Clapton. It is one of the few "covers"-- in the loosest terms, which is better than the original(s). As an old hippie, one of my favorites is Stills and Crosby - the lead break in "Suite-Judy Blue Eyes" ; and I think I like it best at WOODSTOCK- fresh, ragged in its elegance. And, finally, thanks to this site- Tommy Emmanuel "Blues Boogie"- when I click You Tube, it comes up by default. As an aside, I worked for two or ten years to cover Clapton's break on "Sunshine of Your Love" and then went totally nuts trying to do the same on "Crossroads" the concert "version." I can still do a fair job of covering BB King, but then his lead work isn't technically complex- his usual voice key and mine are the same- there is something so blue-sweet in his riffs, though. Just my thoughts.mt

My favorite up there is Stevie Ray Vaugn, followed by David Gilmore and 3rd, Randy Rhoads.

Nice stuff but a flawed Top 20. Richard Thompson's solos in "Walking on a Wire" and "Shoot out the Lights" have to be in a Top 20 list.

I agree with Lance. Eruption changed the world so it has to have a mention.

The greatest "blues" type solo/lead break in rock has to go to Angus Young (AC/DC) for his live album (If You Want Blood) performance of She's Got The Jack. Sweet. Simple. Stunning!

For blues I've always been partial to SRV's TinPan Alley.

What, no mention of Eddie Van Halen either?

If we are talking electric to me it's got to be the live version of Comfortably Numb, David Gilmour (if you didn't see the 1994 Earl's Court concerts, well you've never seen live music!), or there's Peter Green, Green Manalishi.

Two Mark Knopfler pieces, again live, Sultans of Swing and Local Hero.

And as Dave said, almost anything by Richard Thompson.
