After 4 months of anticipation Last night I put the strings on my guitar !

Still needs a final setup but after about a couple of hours playing I'm realy happy with the sound - and the fact that she plays in tune !!!

A big thankyou to everyone who has helped out with advice along the way !

Thanks everyone - low res pics help a lot !!!

For those who asked

The design is from the plans in the Kinkead book he calls it a Kinkead Kingsdown its pretty much an OM

The only mod from the plans I did are I did the Cumpiano hardware based neck joint and the bridge pin holes are in an arc instead of a straight line. Any other differences are mistakes !!!

Materials are:

Sitka Spruce top
Walnut B/S (was originaly going to be African Mahogany but I made such a pigs ear of planing to thickness they ended up in the bin !!!)
Curly Koa bindings/rosette/headplate
Finish is FP over Zpoxy (see my last thread

)

Dale - Bending the koa bindings wasn't a problem. I did however do them one at a time in my homemade lightbulb bender ( bending with gloved hands rather than with a metal slat - then leaving clamped up to set)Cachalote39113.4714583333

Great first guitar Richard, I wish my first had looked that good! Guitars based on the Kinkead plan always seem to end up sounding good. What's next?

Not to pick on you, because your guitar is very very nice, but the above line reminds me so much of what I (we beginners) have to go through to get a finished guitar.

I killed my first head plate - just ordered my second fingerboard - on my third truss rod - and so on and on...

I just hope after all my errors my guitar comes out as nice as yours. Again great job.

Looks great, Richard. My next build is the Kinkead OM also. Let me know what case fits that thing. I'm not sure if a Martin OM case will work or not because the waist of the Kinkead is abour 3/4"-1" closer to the neck.
