Ok,

So I can get this stuff made up. It will come in 45 inch lengths .2 " tall and layed up as "white" (maple) .02 x Rope (maple .18/ebony .18 repeating at 45 degrees).080 x black (ebony) .02. The installation procedure would be to install the binding and then scrape off the outer black or white layer to expose the rope on the top and side surfaces. They will be about $6.75 a stick. If this sounds good then I will get it under production. I also want to know about wood choice. I suspect that the "white" will actually be maple as the preference and that was is what I speced on. Now for the dark colour, do you want Ebony or do you want Mahogany? I can get both but the minimums are a fair few sticks so if there are only a couple of one but a lot of another we will probably only go with one. But if there is good interest in both I will get both maid up.

Thanks and standing by!

Shane

Shane,

What a star. I will let the other traditionalist" who have yet to build have their say but I would be interested in buying a set or 2 for any future builds. Maple would be my preference. The trad stuff looked more brown than black to me so mahogany would be my preference.

Do you know yet if you can do any Lutz sets longer than the 32" Weiss ones for harp guitars?

I am processing wood again this weekend Dave and have already bucked the blocks. I have one block that I left at 48 inches....now I just have to see if I can hand split it . If not I have the chainsaw to get me started and small excavator to pop it apart. So we will have some sets I think......no promises until I see the wood and get it cut but I think it is going to work well!

Got to have pictures of this event. That's one hell of a birthing process for a guitar

I will try to remeber to flip from pics Dave. I am going to try to hand split from both ends at the time first. Still, that means leaving it laying flat.....I am over thinking this...I just have to get it! I will let you know how it goes.

Hi Shane,
My chioce would be holly/rosewood if possible. If not maple/mahogany would be second choice.

When you're doing those long splits remember that the NW Coast Indians split out the planks to cover thier longhouses by hand.

So it looks like EIR/Holly is the preference. Dave are you OK with that? It looks like I can get that so I will confirm the order today and get it going.

GD, I know that the NW native population used to hand split entire logs but they had two advantages!

First...They split cedar which is a lot easier to split and was a better choice because of it's great resisteance to decay.

Second....They were a LOT tougher than I!

Peter...I often ship to the UK so I will put you down as interested when it gets here.

I think that the price will be the same using this wood combination. If that changes, and they will let me know before they start, I will let you all know!

Thanks and I will let you all know when it gets here.

Shane

Shane,
I'm just glad you are putting this together. Color is not that important.....black/white, brown/white/ etc. It'll all look good unless you were building a purple guitar I guess. Let us know what it looks like when finished!!

Shane,

EIR/Holly would be perfect.

Will do Ron thanks,

We just split out a bunch of 48 inch long billets today. We are cutting standard guitar sets tomorrow and then processing a bit more bracewood and then I need to figure out how to square up these billets, I don't think I built my carriage long enough for them! I'll figuer something out! Harp guitar sets will be availble soon as well! Probably about the same time as when the bindings arrive.

I'll take 10 of the Holly/Rosewood sticks.
Do I understand correctly that there will be a black
inner line?

Thanks!

Hi Mike, They will likely be a EIR inner line and holly outer line, so when you install them you decide which line you want inside (holly or EIR) and then the binding proud .020 and scape off the other to expose the rope pattern both on top and on the side.

Hope that makes sense!

Shane

I have just been informed that Holly is not available, so I have subbed in Maple. So they will be Maple/EIR.

I sure hope that is OK!

Thanks

Shane
