Finally something to show for the koa terz saga! Just cut the last piece.

Gold MOP for the fretboard. Just discovered it's not going to fit very well
in its intended location. Back in November, I posted some Photoshop
mockups with it between the 3rd and 5th frets. Got some great
suggestions from you all, one of them from Dave White (thanks, Dave!) to
instead put it centered around the 12th fret. Well, I went merrily ahead
and cut all the pieces without taking into account that the fret spacing is
different. Arrggghhhh. So, it won't fit where it seems to look best.
Frets are going to cut through the leaves if I use it at the 12th fret. Maybe
it will just go on the headstock of th 000 I'm building for my nephew. His
dad and I were born in Hawaii and he values that part of his heritage, so it
seems a good fit. Plus he loves surfing there. Heck, why not! I'm pleased
with how it turned out anyhow.

Woa. Almost forgot this little feller.

Picked him up today at Woodcraft. They let me take the floor model for
last month's sale price of $219. Got to make him a stand. It was a good day.

Sorry, folks but yet again John's the winner.

Well, I’m feeling a little sick right now.

It happens every time you guys do one these, “guitar building in process slide show things”

I guess I’ll go sulking back to my lowly shed, and work on my plain old dreadnought.

But, maybe, one day, it’ll be different!
After I’ve tried the trials and tribulations of side bending!
Overcoming the boundaries of binding!
Nestling in necks with the greatest of ease!
Fretting in places where no one has fretted before!

Yes, I can see now!

One day!

I’ll be able to stand up, and show a guitar that deserves the merit and recognition that any great guitar would!

Nah! I’ll just go get another beer.

Seriously folks, I have three words to describe the work you do!

BEAUTIFUL!!! BEAUTIFUL!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!

Sincerely, Robert

John, Love those chubby bottom guitars!
I tend to favor the lower bout also.

Beutiful work guys!

And thanks for the kind words also!

John...I shudder every time I see those revived Stellas. You've really raised the bar and have taken a vintage path that will differentiate you from anyone out there. Congrats, my friend!

How a bout a few sound clips when they're completed!

John,

Those are going to be some tasty guits! I'd love to drop by if I get a chance next time I'm in the Bay Area.

Hesh,

That L-00 is looking great. Let us know how the FP goes. Also, I'm awed by how tidy you keep your shop. Our living room doesn't look that good!

I was sort of in a rush earlier, Hesh, but here's the lowdown on the knot.

It's a knot from an actual stone in Perthshire county, Scotland, so I can't claim design credit. There are three more knots on that board (12, 17, 24) which are my design.

The cutting and pocketing was done on the Fadal as I'm quite certain that it's beyond human hands (there is no fill used at all). I wicked some CA around the knots to hold them in although you need to remove them -very- carefully with two pairs of small needle-nose pliers to get them out even with a press fit. The strands of the knot, as well as the thinnest holes, are 21 thousandths of an inch thick.

The board (or one like it) will be donated in a few weeks when I become a sponsor. Given that most of the work here is acoustics, I'm not sure how many people would really be interested in a compound radius 24 fret board so I'll probably have to save it for my next electric.

Wade, I've thought I might trying cut a sound hole something like that. My plan was to glue or tape the pattern down to the top and and cut it with an sharp knife. Am I headed in the right direction? or is there an easier way?

Wow, some impressive work! As I am in between for a week or so, I've dived into my E-Bay stash of 1/8" plexi and have completed 1/2 body templates for both a 00 12 fret Martin and a 0 12 fret Martin.

The internet has been flakey for us today, so I'm getting more done!

Next up are the side templates using the method outlined here on the forum using the mold and radius dish.

Lance and Coe, you've got a couple of beauties in the works there!

Hesh, I used the sander for the first time today. What a great invention!

I put this little form together today. But once again, forgot to build it with
an incline a la Bruce Dickey, so the bouts are level to keep the wood,
blanket and slats from slipping off.

Another three hours, shop got up to 62. Came back in the house, no
pains and didn't even need to have a nap! I'm stoked!

Back in the saddle again!! Woo hoo!!

I'm finishing up the neck carving for my L-00, just glued the fretboard on today so I can get the neck carved to it.

Also starting a mac ebony b/s adi top dred that is next on my client build list. This time I ordered one of John W's necks. The neck is walnut with a curly maple/rosewood/curly maple center strip. Should be here today along with my new headstock jig. I'm stoked about it! Now, if that FedEx man would just get here.....

Putting in a new dust collector system, just have to remember to open the right blast gate in future .

Oh, and a good friend of mine dropped off his Jet 10-20 as a present for me! Explanation, he's a guy I've known for a few years when he came to fit a kitchen for us, we had to have it specially made for our house, which is quite old. Well he has since set up his own bespoke hand-crafted kitchen business and builds top range kitchens in the Tunbridge Wells area of England (the Brits will understand that this means MONEY) His kitchens tend to run in the $50k and up price bracket. Well for the last few months he has been using my 21" 5hp Axminster Band saw to resaw some Cherry and Oak. He knew I used to have a 10-20, and that I regretted changing it for the 16-32, long since gone, and he said he had this one lying around and didn't use it as he had a wide belt sander, and I was welcome to it.

I will be staying faithful to my planes and Wagner for thicknessing stuff, but the 10-20 may come out to be used for finish sanding, which is what they are really designed for. A nice gift anyway.

Colin

Hooray, I finally got my new Biesmeyer Commercial BC30 fence! I have and old Wadkin 10" cabinet saw, 3 phase 2,2KW, the thing is built like a tank but the fence is no good. Hopefully the new fence will be a worthwhile upgrade (the shipping was almost as much as the price, and then I have to pay 25% import tax on that total It better be good, I could have gotten a lot of nice wood for that!).

Arnt, I have a fence just like yours. I love it! Hope you enjoy yours too!

Hesh, I intend to get some pics up as soon as the neck gets finished. I'm looking forward to playing this one and it may be mine to keep.
