Thought I'd share this idea, especially for anyone on their 1st guitars.

I practice binding, routing, pore filling, and finishing on inexpensive solid wood cigar boxes. Empty boxes can be had from cigar stores really cheap, like $1 or $2 for solid wood boxes. Many of these cigar boxes are made of nice spanish cedar which is traditional for the curing and ageing of premium cigars. Order some extra binding/purfling strips to match your guitar build, and do a binding/purfling job on cigar boxes until you feel comfortable with the process. I use cigar boxes to set up my binding router, Sloan type cutter, and Schnieder Gramil. I adjust those tools, cutting on the boxes until I get channel just right, then go to the guitar. I get unfinished spanish cedar boxes that are very poros, and do the whole process.

So, try a project cigar box, you might even want to make it into a CBG(cigar box guitar).

very wise. I am working on doing segmented rosettes. There isn't much room for sloppiness...I made a little jig for my sander to ensure every angle is accurate, and practice, practice practice!
