I am really disappointed that I will not be able to go. I made it to the last 2 but the timing is bad for me as my little baby girl will be graduating from High School this year. They have all sorts of events during senior week that will conflict with the symposium. I know it is impossible to make these things work out for everyone, so no gripes here. I hope I can make it to the next one.

BTW, I did speak with Bill the other day and he still (always) could use some articles for GuitarMaker. I know I am guilty, of not writing up some stuff that I keep meaning to do.

Stan, you have great respect for your boss, and that is very admirable! You came to his defense when you thought somehow his efforts were being misrepresented, again very admirable, but from you, what else would we expect!

What was it that someone said? No harm no foul
I sure hope I can make it!

Lance, I was wondering if the new OLF tee shirts will arrive in time for the ASIA conference? I think it would be cool for OLF member to show up wearing them and we would know who was who right away.

No pressure, just wondering. After all, I still have last year's shirt.

I am planning to be at the big ASIA show in May. I'm really looking
forward to the convention and, the chance to meet many of the great
people from here at the OLF.

Grizzly has been mentioned several times... and golfing. But no one has
mentioned that springfield is like the bass fishing capital of the universe!

I understand they have a rather nice Bass Pro Shop in Springfield.
Any if your better half wants to drive a few miles South to Branson to catch a show or two.......

I really hope to make it, the last one sure was a lot of fun. Travel expenses will be murder tho (you could get a LOT of wood for that...)

Not only the huge Bass Pro in Springfield, in addition to the Grizzly, there are nice resturants around also. I live in Branson, about 45 minutes south. Many really nice golf courses, shows, Silver Dollar City and Celebration City, a new thing called the Landing with a Bass Pro and lots of shop. Tanger Discount Mall lot of nice stores, etc. 2 or 3d largest tourist attraction in U.S. Say this so if any of you want to do a family thing or have them do things while in symposium there are things to do for them. Oh yea, any of you like trout fishing one of the best lakes in Branson (Lake Taneycomo)

Perhaps we could charter a 747 to run around the country (world?) picking up everyone and then delivering back to their homes after the show!

Yeah!!!!

So, you guys who think you're gonna have time during the Symposium to golf, fish, catch a show, etc. are in for a big surprise--unless you book an additional week at a motel!

I assume the offense was taken at my post. I certainly wouldn't apologize
for anything I said, but am sorry if anyone took offense at it. I suppose I
should emphasize that my complaint is with the situation though, not
with any individuals. A holiday weekend is a very bad time for a
professional trade seminar, and if it was an oversight than so be it.
Memorial Day is usually supposed to be in June, right? I can easily see
how it could have happened.

Oh well, mistakes happen and I understand. I've done my share with
seminars, from the Northwoods we used to host at Bryans to helping
(then ASIA president) Dave Vinopal as he was trying to keep things
together at the Burlington symposium ten years ago. I fully appreciate the
time and effort that goes in to organizing these, and understand that
complications like this not only can, but inevitably will arise around every
corner.

I have full respect and gratitude for those who put a what I know is a
rediculous amount of their own time, money and energy in to making
these things happen. Still, It's a bad weekend for any trade seminar - not
blaming or upset at anyone for doing anything bad, but a little
disappointed in a bad situation.

Hopefully at least my apprentice will be able to go, and I hope all those
who can make it learn a lot and enjoy.

How about we get Howard Hughe's Spruce Goose up and flying for the job. Once everyone's delivered back home we can cut the plane up for brace wood.

Not necessary Bob..I have a very large "glue fridge".

Seriously though it would be good to arrange some sort of gathering of the Australians on this forum. All others who can afford the airfare also welcome of course.

Cheers Martin

Bill (Moll) told me the dorm rooms rival some of the nicer hotels.

Good grief you Australians are clever. And that "aged" spruce, too. (Wonder if it's adi.)

Hesh -- here is the unqualified response to your queries:

Q1. Since I am a "subscriber" with the OLF I will qualify for ASIA member pricing correct? Will ASIA have my membership info at the time of my registration?

A1. When registering do so under the assumption ASIA is aware of your membership.

Q2. They list rooms at $150. Are these on campus dorm rooms? Single, double, or queen beds (perhaps lofts)? Does each room have a private bathroom......    Or are these local hotel rooms.

A2. It'll be a dorm probably with single beds, shared washroom/shower facilities - though co-ed showers will be discouraged.    Seriously you will want a shared room (make sure you list Lacey as the person you will be sharing with unless you want to sleep with Serge).

Hesh only hoitey toitey schools like the Univ of Michigan have dorm rooms with Queen sized beds....get with the program dude I played in a basketball tourney at the U of M when I was in Univ...I've got a few dorm stories for offline discussion

Q3 ASIA lists a guest attendence fee is this what I would pay for Lacey?

A3. Dunno - though why not register Lacey as an attending participant -- there will be excellent inlay sessions.

Q4. Do the fees include all seminars, meals, events etc?

A4. The fees include the seminars and meals I believe for Thursday through Sunday breakfast if it is organized as ASIA 2005 was.

Q5 Since this is on campus is a car really needed?

A5 Do a MapQuest check and see how close you are to amenities. (I will be plotting the campus location against the nearest liquour store).

Q6 I have not found the schedule of seminars listed so there are some days I would want to be there and others I would not care so much about. Where do I find the schedule of seminars.

A6. Bill Moll is still working on finalizing all the speakers/presenters -- so best not to push for a finalized schedule till he is done. Trust me you will want to be there every day and will likely find yourself conflicted as to which seminar to attend as sessions run concurrently (based on ASIA 2005 experience).

Q7 I checked and flights are still available (direct) out of Detoilet which is our nearest airport.

A7. Good stuff!! Can you get a direct flight?

Q8 Would other OLFers be interested in during ASIA a dedicated OLF party?

A9. Hesh'ster if you stay on campus -- organizing stuff impromtu will be easy enough to do. If the weather co-operates there will great opportunity to mingle in the evening or organize a dinner outing, etc. Why limit yourself to OLF'ers?

Q9 I am probably interested in Friday, later in the day for travel time through early Sunday, when are others of my pals (you know who you are) going to be there?

A9. I for one am targetting to be there on the Wednesday to give JJ a good butt whooping on the golf course. (I wish) I think ASIA kicks off on the Thursday though curious myself if that means the morning or something in the evening.

With respect to your Q2 and Q5 -- perhaps Stan could give us an advance scouting report!!

I trust you found the above entirely unhelpful

Anthony--You've been nominated to approach the president of Grizzly for a show discount on all tools.

Nelson, actually with Grizzly being so close -- I wonder if Bill has approached them to get a Vendor's booth at ASIA?
