Hello to all I'm New to the forum, and I'm about to
embark on building a Weissenborn. I and was
hoping I could be directed to a source for the wood
(Sapele with lots of stripes)) that I would like to use. I
also need a neck blank for the Head Stock/ Neck
Block. I live in the State of New York, and would like
to buy local but will purchase out of state if I need to. I
enjoyed the reading the post on this forum about
Weissenborn guitars, as well as looking at the
photos as they were being built. Thanks

Mack

Hey Mackie,

Where in NY are you from? I notice you said New York State, as opposed to NY, which makes folks like me whew grew up in NYS immediately think you're not from "the city" of NY. We upstaters never got any respect. Someone asks "Where are you from?" you say "New York" and they will ask what it's like in the Big Apple. Dang! I lived 4 hours away from the Big Apple. Only been there a couple times at best.

There are two OLF vendors in NYS, Bob Cefalu of RC Tonewoods, and Brad Goodman of Goodman Guitars.
Other vendors here could also help you. I sell woods out of Rhode Island and could help you with some ribbbon-striped African Mahogany (Khaya), and as Robin mentions, he sells some cool Yellow Siris. John Hall is across the boarder into Pennsylvania. There are other folks here who can help you out as well.
We would all like to help out, as you will certainly find what you need here.

Thanks for the replys. To answer your question Don,
I'm in New York City, sorry for not making that clear.
Cloudforest, Ive never heard of Yellow Sirus before,
but it sure is pretty and the price seems right. I'm
pretty much set on a Sapele this time around, but I
will consider it for a future project. Don, I'll drop you
an email for additional info or feel free to send me
the wood demensions and price quote. I need top
back and sides.

Hey Mackie,

Don't forget about Tasmanian Blakwood. If you need a sample I can pop a piece in the post. Check out my images at Luthiersauctions.com
