Hi all,

Ok after a fairly shakey routing experience my beautiful rosewood bindings are glued and I have just finished my initial sanding session. I must admit I am relieved to find that the mess i created with the Dremel does not seem to show too much. I do have a few drop fills to do though but hopefully they will go ok.

Anyway below (hopefully) are some pics. Please enjoy.

Barry.

Note the protusion in the end trim is a rosewood drop fill yet to be sanded.

Barry, it's looking pretty good I may say!
Is that a kit?

Thanks
Yes its a Stewmac 000.

I thought i would start off nice and easy like.

Already planning the 2nd one though.

Really getting into the 'design' (woods/colours etc) side of things.

Just wish my skill would catch up with my brain LOL

Looks great Barry! Kit or scratch the first one is always a load of fun. Now you will be hooked though, prepare to get a second mortgage to keep your new hobby going.

Looks like stellar work to me, Barry. I built a kit for my first, and I'm bending the sides on my second tonight...so I understand exactly what you mean about wishing my skills would catch up to my desire.

Nice looking guitar!

Looking great Barry!

I'm not too far ahead of you. I'm currently on #2 and find around every
corner I'm constantly doing little things that result in more work for
myself.

That looks very nice Barry! It's funny you should post that today as i've
reached exactly the same point as you today and was about to post but
discovered that an (as yet unidentified) blob on the lens of my camera
made all my photos, errr..... a bit.... Blobby. It's my first build too and
have had 'fun' with my routing also.

Hows your top to neck block angle i just discovered mine is out and i
don't have any room to sand the sides much more...

John.

Looking great Barry.  When I started showing my first I couldn't understand how people didn't see flaws that looked like craters to me.  No one is more critical than the builder it seems.

BTW Don't you think it would sound better with strings?

Looking GREAT Barry - Working on a 000 12 fretter myself. Has a couple of StewMac parts like the neck. Keep up the good work and don't forget to post the finished product.

Larry

Err fine i think (hope) i took a lot of time over ensuring that all was square during glueing so i will be non too happy if they are not still square. I have offered the neck to the body but as the lower frets are not in yet the end of the FB bends away from the SB so it is hard to guage how much work will be neaded to set the neck but i am expecting a lot as its #1

And thanks to Hesh regarding the wood bindings they do look nice. I would like to get the end trim right next time though with the laminate sections bordering the inlay etc..

Well my pics are a little clearer but i guarantee you that my guitar has
more flaws than yours! Why do you think i crop my pictures so much

I'll put up a thread when (or that should be if) the sun comes out. Once
again i'm sorry about posting the pic, it was very late last night and i
realise now it would have been better just to start a new thread.

Mine is about 1 degree out, it think it's really hard to get a true 90 using
the cardboard inner mold method. I would be interested to know if yours
is 90.

Can't wait to see more pics (with a bit more light please!)

Hahahah
No worries regarding the post I am only being silly.
More light noooooooooooooo it will show the flaws up hahahaha. But seriously of course the next pics (post a little more sanding etc) will be in better light.

I will check my nech and tail blocks tonight i suspect they will be more than 1 deg off though :(

Barry,

Great looking, especially for a first try. When fitting the neck, don't forget you really don't want a 90* angle. About 1 1/2* less should be the target- so that the strings end up high enough over the bridge to allow a proper saddle height. But if it's not exactly on, judicious adjustments in the neck set can usually compensate...

Hi Gene, I was talking about the angle between the top and the neckblock
- according to the stumac instructions which Barry and I are following this
should be 90?

Good job so far! I see you decided not to fret the upper fingerboard over the body. That's cool though ,a lot of people don't even play up there! Just kidding Barry It does look good .Those kits are excellant from Stew-Mac and you're doing a good job !I hope she sounds great for you.
