Hesh, it's mostly just my furstration with pricing; they're German-made tools, but I have yet to find a seller here that will do a decent price. May have to just get one from the states....
Mattia-
They're practically unavailable in Canada so you are not alone (Festool website will not ship outside the USA, Cdn dealer is an architectural hardware wholesaler with no online pricing or ordering info.).
Unless you have a good local source, the hassle getting parts and proprietary discs would outweigh the advantages of Festool in my opinion.
This all reminds me of the brief incursion into the N.A. market of Inca tools 30 yrs ago.
BTW, Fein makes similar tools and may be more available in the Netherlands??
Cheers

John

Mattia-
Festool is virtually unobtainable in Canada as well. You really want a good nearby/online dealer for discs and parts especially since the discs are proprietary.
Fein makes some similar tools and may be easier for you to find in the Netherlands?
This all reminds me of the ill-fated foray into North America by INCA tools about 30 years ago- good products, premium price, but restricted/specialized distribution network.

Cheers

John

Oops- sorry for the double post. WebWiz aka OLF lost my first post to Mattia for a few minutes, so I retyped.

Oh, Festool's easily and readily available from normal retailers (ok, semi-trade retailers) over here, so parts and service are not a problem at all - the prices, however, are. The 290-330 dollar pricetag I quoted came straight off of Festool's own website, and the only second-hand one I've found on the 'bay and similar is nowhere near sold yet, and currently at over 150 euros (170 dollars). So, yeah.

Mattia, Here is a link to the Chicago Mini ROS.

http://www2.northerntool.com/product-1/200051224.htm

By the way, it uses no where near the rated 21 cfm. More like 2 cfm is my guess. Mike Doolin talked about this tool in one of the GAL journals.

Barry-
Are the discs for the 2-3" size easily available from autobody suppliers , or...?
Sounds like a good piece of gear- thanks for the link.

John, Yes the sanding disks are readily available. I use 3" diameter
3M Hookit 260L Finishing Film Disks in grits of P1000 and P1500,
available from AutoBodyDepot.com and quite a few other suppliers.
The Abralon pads in 3" diameter were quite a bit harder to source. I
finally found them at HandsonTools.com and I use them in 2000 and
4000 grit.

All these disks allow you to dry sand which has enormous
advantages over wet sanding. They also last for quite a long time. It
only takes one Abralon disk to do the entire guitar. This stuff has
revolutionized my finishing. Much quicker, and better results.

If you have the power issue worked out.. You **** COULD **** have someone buy it over here and ship it to you. I realize shipping is a pain, but it might be cheaper.
