15" Lower bout
11 1/4" Upper bout
19 3/8 body length
9" between waist valleys
6 3/4 from neck joint to waist valley
5 5/16 from neck joint to center of sound hole
4" Dia. sound hole
4 1/4 max depth
3 13/16 minor depth
Top bracing is based off of a shadow tracing of a Martin OM, but my braces thickness and scalop shapes. There are two back bracing patterns. Conventional and my x-back bracing It is not intended to be a Martin copy but is the OM sized model I have developed for my production. I might mention that these are full scale drawings and are body and brace details I did not detail neck to allow each luthier to incorperate their own pre-defined neck and block designs.

Well I am no brace expert but I had seen several X back brace patterns and was curious as to tonal diff. so I tried a few different patterns and brace thickness, heights. to see what I would get.

I like to build OM's with Koa tops with IRW back and sides. One of the down falls of Koa top is that some of the higher overtones tend to be muted. I tried stiffening the bass side loosening up the trebel side Koa tops but that just brought out too much mid range so my thinking was to change the back bracing to help bring the back more into play. Like I said I am not a sonic engineer but it did help a great deal. I use it pretty much exclusively on my OM's now regardless of tone wood.

I did several tests using graphite dust to map the back response. very simple not scientific though and found the backs tended to resonate more evenly from the approximant center of the lower bout out than with the conventional bracing. It did seem to wake up the higher overtones on my Koa toped guitars. This really is not based on a proficient study but just informal experiments. Personaly I liked the response I get from this pattern so I have adopted it.

P.S. I have not had the opportunity to confirm it's response on the SJ yet. However I went ahead and proportionally adapted it for SJ's. My next build will be an SJ and I will report on that when I star tapping

Thanks for the explanation, Michael. I've never heard of a Koa top mixed with other b/s woods, but your explanation makes sense from my limited perspective. Now I wonder how using a mahogany or walnut top would sound with maple (which some describe as too bright)?
Just too many ideas and too little time....
