Andy, thanks a whole bunch. Interesting bracing pattern...if it sounds half as good as its going to look -- you're going to have a winner.

Thanks for the pics, guys!
Very inspiring... about as good a motivator
as a stout cup of coffee.

I didn't mention it in my post, but the plane in my picture is the Spiers infill plane that I got as a gift to myself last Christmas. It really shines with tough woods like this; the extra mass, the thick iron, the tight mouth and the mass placement all contribute to the pleasant planing experience. Can you tell that I am really fond of this plane…

Hey Toddstock, what ever happened to the Khaya
Weissenborn you were building? I've been waiting
for an update. As a newbie I'm presently learning to
do some repairs by restoring a Pre War Parlor.
When i finish, I will attempt to build a Weissenborn.

All are finished with French polished shellac. The SJ's will be completed in a few weeks, sadly right before I have to close up the workshop, move to another state, and set up again. This is my first attempt at steel string guitars and they were based on the OLF SJ. More pictures to come when they are done. The classicals will have to wait until I re-build a new shop before they are finished. They are based on the Rodriquez pattern, will have elevated fingerboards and fitted with Rodgers tuners.

What is on my workbench?

Well, I have several workbenches, 4 to be exact. And all of them have so much clutter on them that you can hardly see the bench surface.
Yes, I know that's pathetic, but I'm in the middle of rehabbing my shop for the second time in a few years.
I've removed several walls to eliminate a spray room and extend the workshop space.
In the process, I've made room for a small cnc and a new sander (if I get one),
and am removing the overhead wood storage rack and putting up a wall-mounted wood rack.
I'm also making space for more shelving for wood that I'm stickering and selling.
I have way more wood than I realized!   Perhaps when it's done I'll post a pic of the final product.
Still nothing in the process as far as guitars go.
One of these days I'll have something going once I'm done with this project.

This is sort of an introduction, combined with a "what's on my bench ". I've been lurking here for about 6 weeks or so, but haven't posted yet (I don't think). I built my first guitar, a knock off of a Taylor-style flat-top, back in 1995. Built two D-hole Maccaferri-style guitars in 1998, and haven't done squat since. Started a mandolin project about three years ago or so. Built a prototype of of cheapo Home Depot woods. The prototype was a success, so began working on three similar mandos out of good woods, but I lost the drive and let them sit for about three years.

I accepted a VERY early retirement offer from Ford about three weeks ago, and have been back in the shop full-time since then. The mandos are below; they're based on Bendetto's guitar blueprint, but with F-5 style bracing. Tomorrow I'll rout the dovetail mortises, and begin the necks. I've got woods for two archtop guitars sitting on the shelf; when the mandos are done, the guitars come next.

Nice to finally "meet" all of you - the quality of work here is stunning.

OK .... anybody know why the text in my note above didn't wrap? Is that a Firefox thing, a Forum thing, or pilot error?

Rick, your text didn't wrap because the page is sized to the width of the widest picture in the thread.

Great work, everyone!

Rick, you can simply add hard returns <Enter> at the end of a line, to get the text to be more manageable.

If folks could size their images more carefully (Doctors! ) this wouldn't be such a problem.

Wow, NICE work everybody! What wood is the back of the redwood top guitar Andy?

My workbench is not that full at the moment, Im in the final year of my school, and making the journeymans letter, which is the traditional way of getting a craftsmans certificate in sweden.

The test is, to make a technical drawing, build a guitar following it, and have two guitarmakers come and gradit between 0.0 and 5.0... then two guitarists come and grade it too.

My guitar is a small guitar made with fingerstyle players in mind. Its 15 " LB, 25.5" scale. Top is Carpathian with red spruce braces, HHG. Back is Brazilian, and the rims are laminated. Binding is koa. The fingerbard inlays are inspired by the Somogyi style inlay, with strips as position markers.

Heh! It's a bit of a controversy here. Brock removed it because some people were deleting whole posts from threads, thus making some of the threads incomprehensible.

Your guitar looks outstanding, Lars! Good luck with your evaluations.

Great work Gary. All are very nice. I really think that your rosette is stunning. A real eye-catcher.

Thanks for sharing.
