Is there a standard angle for the end graft?  I want to build a jig that will produce a standard graft angle for both ukes and guitars. Thanks

yep
I have seen some beautiful curved ones too.. I think it was Paul Woolson
Personally I currently use no angle. Just a straight graft

I like the subtlety of the straight graft too.

Es muy elegante.

You guys are all wrong! You must use a straight angle and it must be of required size and shape. Anyone that would do anything different must be nuts! Man, who would do such a thing?

Another vote for straight end graft. Simple and elegant.

if you look around in the archives you will find some photos of end graft jigs which will allow variable angle including straight, and with modification to the guides could do paul's curved wonder as well.

I would have thought straight ones would be more difficult to fit accurately (whereas slightly angled ones can be wedged in so the seam is always perfect - assuming the graft & pocket angles are the same). No?

Dave, that is probably true. Another advantage of the wedge is that if the top and back center seams don't exactly match up it will be less noticeable if you use a wedge. I use both straight and angled ones depending on how accurate I have been up to that point...

FWIW, I use only a sharp knife to score the lines, a small saw and chisels to take out the waste. I'm sure it would take me a lot longer to set up a jig, fiddle with routers and bits and so on, than just cut it with some simple tools. Unless you have everything set up and ready to go, as in a factory situation, or you plan to do something very elaborate, I don't really see the point in a jig for this.

Thanks all for the beautiful end grafts.  Paul, could I suggest you show this beautiful end graft on your site?  I went to your site because of your reputation but did not see pics of your end grafts.

You guys keep setting "the bar" higher and higher !

I had never even thought of doing curved end grafts, but seeing Paul's curves gives me a new direction to try with the next guitar.

GREAT job!

Somebody needs to teach Paul and Greg how to do a tapered end graft.
