I'm thinking about getting this cyclone from Grizzly:

Does anybody have this model? I'm pretty sure it will be enough cfm for any tool I would ever need. I don't ever plan on using more than one tool at a time. My big question is how good do the filters perform? It says it gets down to the .2-2 micron level pretty well. Can anybody confirm how well the filters work for the smallest particle sizes?

Thats a monster, you'd have to have another shop to put it in.

I have this and like it. My only advice is to tell you to bolt this puppy to the floor

You should talk to Bill Greene about dust collection, and where he got his information.  I don't think I saw a speck of dust in his shop.  He actually did some sanding for us on his belt/disc sander, and it put no dust in the air.  His system consists of a good impeller and motor plus a big garbage can. The system produces something like 1350 cfm.  He routes the very fine dust outside into the mulch bed, but it could be routed back inside with a filter.

yes sir, i do own this machine. i have zero complaints. plenty of suction for the 15" planer and 8" jointer (both grizzly). i have a rough time collecting from my table saw though (also grizzly 3hp cabinet), but im inclined to think that is the saw and not the collector. the great thing is that it comes with a remote you can stick in your pocket or shop apron or whatever. so no excuse to not turn it on. and the beast will fit under an 8' ceiling! the stand they sell i believe is around 200 bucks, but i built mine. it cost me about half that and it is much sturdier. you can also bolt it to the wall. even though this machine runs relatively smooth and quiet, i wouldnt want to bolt it to a wall adjacent to a living area. if you have a detached shop, then no worries. as far as the filter goes, i would say that it does its job very well. i think it would be pretty tough to tell if it lives up to its 0.2 micron claim because there is always going to be some dust in any shop that gets used. i wipe my machines down pretty often and theres generally not much to clean up. something to take into consideration is how far away your machines are going to be from the collector. i park my large machines right next to the cyclone, so it really helps it do its job. the less pipe the air and wood have to travel through, the better it is going to perform. also make sure you use blast gates. so... i guess ive said enough here. if you have any other specific questions feel fee to ask here or pm me.

Hi John,

Do you have the iron stand and is that what you are recommending to bolt to the floor? I'm still on the fence now about whether to get the stand. If it's not adequate, I may skip the stand and come up with my own system.

    This machine is very good. It will over time walk because of vibration. I suggest any tool over 3 HP to be bolted to the floor. This unit takes care of 2 saws an 18 inch belt sander 2 assembly benches and my mill , drill presses and belt sander along with the 6 inch jointer. The CFM is over 2000
    I have to say this really knocks down the dust and one can't appritiate how much until you empty the can. The remote is very handy and I have this rigged to PVC pipe.
    I am a very happy pappy on this one . I can run 3 tools and still have dust headin up and out.

Thanks fellas, it looks like the Grizzly model is going to be my next big purchase. For now I plan on just using a 10-15 foot flexible hose and moving it from machine to machine until next summer. Next summer the Air Force will move me for the last time (YEAH, 12 moves in 20 years!) and then I will be able to set up more permanent ducting.

Do any of you guys have or recommend the muffler? I'm thinking either way I'll have earplugs in so it doesn't really matter.

I have a 3hp Grizzly Cylone with their stand. I have been using mine
everyday for the last two years - it hasn't moved an inch. So I guess the
mileage varies for the stand. I would probalby recommend it though - it
is very well-made.
