i'm in the southeast. the ac helps but is not adequate to maintin desired rh during the spring, summer and fall, so the dehumidifier comes into play. in winter the forced air heat is way too dry and i have to run humidifiers. there are very few weeks out of the year when one of the humidity controllers isn't running.

And don't forget to rinse the humidifier wicks weekly to keep them wicking.

I have Hesh's setup but I think one model bigger in each unit, in the unfinished portion of the basement. The dehumidifier drains right to the sump. I wish there were a water hookup for the humidifier, but I guess that's just part of my exercise regime for the winter

I painted the basement floor and walls, but didn't really notice much of a change in the amount of water needed in the winter.
